+1.

Not a fan of Madejski as a human despite what he did for the club but I'd much rather it stayed as it is than was renamed.

To be fair to Madejski, it would have been in his own interest to sell the naming rights, pocket the money and spend less of his own cash on the club. Ok, the classy thing to do would have been to name it 'New Elm Park' or something but I don't begrudge him a little ego trip.[/

wasn't there a public vote?

No. And for the record, SJM got back every penny he put in, with interest. He wanted his name on the stadium. It was far more important to him that the club making £700k a season extra.

To get an income from naming rights you have to have some organisation willing to pay. As this has still not yet happened under the new owners it is clearly not as easy as 1871 thinks. Regret his grasp of finance is about at the same level as his football knowledge.

It was common knowledge at the time that a part of the stadium budget was set aside for Naming Rights. Problem was no-one came forward so Madejski covered it and stuck his name on it

It's not like it's held us back in any way and fair enough he's benefitted from it as well no doubt.

As above though, it's not like we've got companies queuing round the block to throw absurd amounts of money at us to have their name attached to the stadium.

A....did he?
B.....would be a mighty strange/shit business man (both of these could fit SJM) who settled for less than that

So this has become a hot topic again after Tiger recently confirmed we had had talks with parties regarding the stadium name being changed/sponsored. Hey mentioned they owners had partners interested, so we could end up with Euro Cake (god forbid), Caraboa or Thai Airways (unlikely). I'm not sure what other pies they have their fingers in.

Personally, the name change wont bother me. I never refer to it as the Madejski Stadium in any case. We should be able to match, or better, Derby's £700,000 a year, 10 year deal.

Another +1 for that.

Could it be Thai Airways as they are no longer the away shirt sponsor?

Would be happy with that but considering they've just come out of or trying to come out of a dark few years In their recent history I doubt they would be looking to get into any kind of major sponsorship as they focus basic profitability.

Y26 should be sponsored by DUREX, to protect the pricks that sit there!

I would be happy with Thai airways as well, a big brand and a good airline I think. I've not travelled with them before, but I am sure I know people who have and said good things about them. Wasn't aware of there financial issues though, so you're probably right, thats them out of the running.

Perennially empty plastic blue spackerdrome I'm guessing.

If a billionaire is bored and wants to mess with people, rename it the Majeski Stadium.
