Nameless Leon how can you include the Stam era when saying 'nothing has worked'. He's 6 games in and is clearly getting something right. How about letting him have some time. We know this season is a 'development' season so we should be expecting progress from last season but not another title shot.
I'm expecting the system to be properly bedded in and performances being consistent in the next couple of months but if by the next window we are not comfortably mid table it will be disappointing. This squad looks stronger than last season, Stam deserves more patience than you 'have it all today' types are giving him....

Don't attempt to judge me Nameless.

I've sat through some fairly turgid times over the years. I once managed to miss our only home game in a year having been to all the others.

Yet I still renew.

Elsewhere I've acknowledged Stam needs time. It's just I'm so tired of it all now.

Just asking ...... 8 games or 4 years, whatever. Should it really take any amount of time for three internationals on £10k+ a week to have to actually develop an ability (AKA the system) to pass a ball in a triangle and not fvck it up?

But we did do that, more often than not. On Friday. In the game we are discussing.

For all the frustration. How many times did Al habis/moore/Mcshane/blackett/Gunter oxf*rd up with their inter passing?

Compared to 100% of the time when we tried to go long

Yeah, but it's much more complicated than just passing in a triangle.

Have you ever watched Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man City, Germany, Spain ? The best teams in the world, the best players on 10or 20 times what are guys get paid. And guess what ? They hit poor passes, they make mistakes, they miss chances, they choose wrong options. They do it less than our players, but then our players do it less than players at smaller clubs like Wycombe, or Hartlepool, or Rangers.

Blues fans generally seem happy with the point overall.

From Small Heath Alliance http://www.smallheathalliance.com/read.php?1,2067747

This one is during the game:
BBC quote

"Reading bossing the game"
Reading 0-0 Birmingham
Posted at

The manager has asked them to pass it quick on the floor - Reading are passing the ball comfortably with high tempo. They're bossing the possession.
Mick Gooding
Ex- Reading player/manager on BBC Berkshire

Not biased then Mick the Dick?

It's almost as if an ex-Reading player, ex-Reading manager, commentating on a Reading based radio station, broadcasting to a (majority) Reading supporting fan base shouldn't show a Reading bias...

Good point. I'm happy

all over. happy with the point

Excellent point. 2 games away, tricky games at that - 4 points. Luvvly feckin jubbly.

A point at Reading is a really good point. Keeps that decent momentum going, and we were able to rest a couple of players too. Promising start to the season altogether! Let's hope we can grind Sheff Weds down at home.

I'm satisfied yeah, I thought we'd win, but didn't expect to. To say that a point at Reading is a really, really good point is quite small time IMO.

Clean sheet and decent point in reality, be interesting to see how we faired if fully fit. Great start to season, bar wolves at home and if we held out those final 2 mins away at Wigan we would be talking a bloody brilliant start

Reading didn't at any time "Boss the game", if anything we bossed them, by letting them have a shed load of almost wholly ineffectual possession and limiting them to really, one serious chance in 90 mins

Started brightly and looked really good for the first 20 minutes - had a couple of really good chances from set pieces. Slowly got worse after that, and couldn’t keep the ball at all second half, but for all Reading’s possession they didn’t really threaten too much.

Missed the pace of Maghoma and Donaldson going forward. Couple of times, we won the ball back in decent areas but were too slow with breaking. Looked absolutely shattered second half but dug in and made sure we got something. Morrison and Shotton were both immense.

All things considered, a pretty poor performance but a very decent point.

I wonder if them looking shattered second half had anything to do with chasing our ~75% possession.

Comments from bcfcforum.co.uk

* Reading playing tippy tappy side to side rubbish
* Well that was steady as you go really but no real bite up front.
* We never pushed for win really it was there for the taking if you ask me we were really quite comfortable.
* Reading no mugs. Away draw is ok, as always. But a top 4 side would be upset by dropping 2 points and our attacking ability was blunted by the changes to the starting line up
* Ah well a point away is always good but I'm sure we could have got 3 points.
* Didn't sound like a very good performance, but it did sound like we defended comfortably. Ledgzins didn't have too much to do, and Shotton sounded like he bossed the Reading forwards all night.
* It's a good point away at a side who have also made a decent start .........Sheffield Wednesday will offer a tougher challenge I suspect
* away possession and they are the last team you would want to do that with as they play a passing game under Stam and Rowett played right into his hands.
* if we'd have scored in the first half last night, we would have won comfortably. We tired after pressing them high for 15 minutes in each half when we could have scored 3 or 4r. They created NOTHING with their possession which was passed from one defensive wing to the other over and over.

Very likely, they were pressing us high most of the game too so it wouldn't be surprising if they ran twice the distance we did last night.

It's funny how all the teams that leave without three points think they played rubbish at our place, Brighton, Ipswich and Birmingham City, it really is like Premier League 2 the Championship isn't it.

Well, if that's consistent then there must be something in there about us making them play rubbish. So kudos, Jaap.

The average football fan is far more likely to be self-deprecating of their own club rather than praise the opposition.

http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread ... team-today

Lost to a better team today. No shame in that. Once their man was rightly sent off, their two banks of four gave a very disciplined display. Up to the sending off, I thought they played some excellent football going forward.

I completely agree, it's exactly as I saw it too. Even with 10 men, when they weren't killing time, they looked like they still had goals in them and I can only give them credit for how they defended. Definitely the best side I've seen us play to date, very organised and used the ball really well ... Considering how good Reading were, they were trying their best to lose their best players from the match.

I agree. I thought Reading were excellent today. I'd rather congratulate them than look for too much to criticise with our team.

Barnsley fans certainly were very gracious in defeat when I was reading their forum.

They were vary gracious in person to the ones I saw/spoke to after the game. Said we played well and it was just one of those days for them. I hope they do well.

Reading through one of their forums at the moment, even someone who dared to criticise their team today is being shot down. Most of their contributors seem to have a sense of perspective with regard their status/ finances/ expectations - maybe some on here could learn a thing or two....
