Stagecoach 192 from Sandhurst

by siforest65 » 01 Oct 2016 21:35

Saw a few Reading fans outside the Village Inn at Sandhurst today before your game v the sheep and after a quick googling see there is a bus to the Madejski. My usual route has been train from Sandhurst to Reading and then the football bus.

Anyone got any experience of the stagecoach 192 and as away fans I assume we would be okay on it? Does the bus get busy and is it a better experience than train plus bus?

tbh I wish I'd known about it earlier as I was tempted to sit in the home end today but couldn't be arsed with the train plus bus route.

Thanks for that. More gauging those who have used it and how busy it gets and if it better or worse than using train and football buses from the train station..

Yeah I've used it. Doesn't get too busy, it's one of the first pick ups on the run to the ground. Simpler than getting the train/bus as you have been IMO. Cheaper too (£6 or £7 return?).

It,s OK. Away fans fine as most of us on there are over 50! £6.50 return from where ever you get on. Drops you at the ground and back to the Village inn around 17.45 from the roundabout at the bottom of the hill. One downside, You need a decent bladder if you want a drink!

Thanks for the replies. Will probably use it and nip to the village in for my pre match pint.

Used to use it when I lived in Crowers. Normally fairly reliable unless you get a new/different driver who doesn't know the route and gets lost. Can be a bit frustrating after the game as it will wait awhile before setting off meaning the roads are well choked but still better than driving and much better than train+bus, given the lousy service on the Reading-Guildford line.

Thanks for that. Yes, the hourly train service means likely return home at just before 6.30 so looks the better and cheaper option.

£14.50 for me and my two boys works out pretty expensive to use every match. Had considered using the Mereoak P+R butI wont bother after reading one of the other threads....

have used it many times
much better than train and bus option as long as youre not desperate for a pre match booze up

it gets you to right outside the ground with 3/4 hours to spare, its cheaper than driving and parking, and gets back to crowthorne about the same time as I would if driving.

Stupid question alert.

Is the bus easy to find after the match amongst all the other buses that are heading back to the train station?

I will be coming from the away end.

the stagecoach buses are nowhere near the buses back to the station, but at the bottom of the hill behind the away end, near where the park and ride bus to foster wheeler goes from

Thanks for all the replies. We went on the bus yesterday and thought it a decent stress free way of getting there and back. We were slightly rumbled when getting off at the Madejski as my son had his Forest retro 1960's shirt on underneath his coat. All good natured fun though.

Less said about the match and some of our embarrassing fans the better.

One question though. On coming out of the away end I noticed a security cordon preventing us turning left to where your singing section is. Does that mean your fans have to walk all the way round the stadium to get to the stagecoach buses? Only asking as I'm tempted to sit in the home end near the vocal bit when you play Derby next season because I don't think I will be able to visit as an away fan.

Yea that's right. Home fans in that area - Gate 8 - Y25/Y26 - must walk around the whole ground if they want to get the stagecoach busses.

I live in Bracknell and got the stagecoach bus once - it sits stationary for a little while so there's lots of time to make it back to the bus.

There's a safety gate \ fence for obvious reasons. If you want a speedy exit from the ground get seats in the Lower West. (To the left of the away fans section ).

yes the fence performs a vital security function in that instead of walking out and immediately walking past the away end, home fans are forced to walk the long way around so that they walk past the away end 5 minutes later, when all the away fans are outside.

its genius
