Royal Rother Much gnashing of teeth and disgruntlement from some of the core support who still think we should be in the Southern Premier League.... if they want to see a better standard of football they are going to have to wait awhile to see it at Stag Meadow on a consistent basis. Our best players will continue to get snapped up by clubs willing to pay them.

Agree totally. It's why i've all but stopped going. It's not the level of football i got into and its not for me its turned out but some people are negative about it and moan whilst i can accept if thats all the town can manage to turn out then thats that. I'm sure theres enough money in the town to give someone a ego boost in the future that will please the 'core' supporters but they also know how that ends.

... few dribs/drabs of NL action this midweek

Mon
Hungerford 1-0 Welling - att 238 - was at this 'Crusaders' recovered a bit of form after a heavy w/e defeat at StAlebuns. Goal from Ian Herring :? on 80' - spectacular first time drive into top right corner. Our own George Legg did OK between the sticks- not too busy but capable - couple of dodgy kick outs. Nicholas Bignall started ( Stefan Brown out injured and was badly missed)

also in Nat-South: Wealdstone 0-1 Bath City

Tue
FA Vase 2nd Round Hartley Wintney 1-2 Melksham Town - my choice for the evening - wet and drizzly throughout - HW played the nicer football but found the Western League contenders just too big and strong for them - visitors displayed no little flair themselves when needs be - bit of a heavier duty Camberley with a few more frills - especially up front.
HW were eventually worn down - hosts took the lead on 10' but in all honesty being slightly below par themselves on the night were given a bit of chasing from a tough outfit.

Sluff eased past Merthyr 2-0 in the Trophy replay
- in their tie postponed from Sat, Chalfont St P. earned a replay with a 2-2 draw at Burgess Hill.

... elsewhere in the Vase ; Walton & Hersham went out on pens to Glebe from Kent; Hellenic League Brimscomb, were humbled 0-5 at another powerful Western League side Bradford Town. This means (I think) only Thatcham remain from the Hellenic in the next round and they travel to Brizzle Manor Farm who currently sit top of the Western League. There are four perhaps surprising survivors from the CCL: Abbey Rgrs, Sutton Common Rovers, Bedfont Sports & Knaphill.

More about the 3rd Round draw in due course.

...in the leagues 'locally' [SOUTH1C] Farnborough won 3-1 at AFC Dunstable; Fleet Town shared eight goals with Potters Bar and SYCOB slumped 1-3 at Barton.
Three more SL games last night Chesham lost 0-2 at Frome in the Premier ; Marlow bt Aylesbury Utd 2-0 and Winchester were beaten 2-1 by Nor Lye at the Denplan.

Not many lower level games :

CCL Windsor slumped again, 0-2 @ Epsom & Ewell - now down in 13th on a run of 1 point from their last 6 league games.
AFC Hayes 1-4 Bedfont & Feltham
Hanworth V 2-1 Camberley
Horley 4-1 Guildford
NGU 3-2 Badshot Lea - who are sent to the bottom by B&F's impressive away win

In the Hellenic
Bracknell's potentially final game at Bottom Meadow ended with an impressive 2-0 win over previously unbeaten and 2nd place Thame. There is a rumble that the new Larges Lane surface may not be playable in time for this w/e's titanic clash with leaders Thatcham. So they have reverted to Sandhurst this Saturday.
3rd place Flackwell's game at Nomads was washed out- least I think that's why it was off - though there is some doubt about this, as Oxford City had a big Youth Cup game this week. Heathens twitter was reportedly sceptical about the reason for the postponement.
Highmoor/IBIS shared points and four goals with the 'Yellamen' at Scours; Ascot levelled in injury time.

Bracknell are indeed playing Thatcham at Bottom Meadow on Saturday.

Although work on Larges Lane is now more or less complete the ground grading inspection can't be scheduled until the end of November, therefore Bracknell's first game back at Larges Lane is now expected to be the visit of Binfield on 6 December.

Would therefore expect a bumper crowd for that one (especially if any Reading fans not going to Fulham are looking for something more local to do).

Calling it now. Goal of the season - at any level - scored by Harry Pritchard for Maiders against Bath last weekend. Ball never touches the ground in the build up and what a strike.

HELLP
Ardley United 0-1 Brimscombe & Thrupp
Ascot United 1-3 Brackley Town Saints
Bracknell Town 5-2 Thatcham Town - 'Robins' looking ominously good of late; that's two of the top contenders that they've seen off comfortably this week, following their midweek win over previously unbeaten Thame.
A run of 7 wins from 8 in the league has seen them fly up to 5th place with games in hand. Will be expecting to continue that run with a short trip up to struggling Henley in midweek.
- league leaders 'Kingfishers' grabbed a very early two goal lead here, which lasted until the break and reportedly should have been extended but they were blown away in the 2nd half by a Cornell hat-trick - also one from TJ Bohane and two red cards for the visitors.Somewhat 'Stalinesque' absence of a report on the Kingfishers site this AM :? - though their twitter feed does convey a sense of shock!

Highworth Town 4-0 Binfield
Longlevens AFC 1-0 Burnham
Lydney Town A-A Highmoor-Ibis – floodlight failure on 50’ somewhat rescues H/I who were losing 3-1.

Verwood Town 2-0 Andover Town
WESS1
Alton 3-2 Romsey Town

Four Of Clubs ...r
Mangotsfield United A-A Winchester City game abandoned around the hour mark – injury to City’s full-back Joe Hayward.
(

Broken fibula - he was on the pitch with a broken leg for an hour before the ambulance got there and spent the night in hospital in Bristol - sounds bad. Mangos were 1-0 up at the time.

An hour waiting for an ambulance ? Was it coming from Winchester?

They don't tend to rush for broken legs for footballers. Have heard of longer waits than a hour.

Unless of course theres money to be made and a demand to watch the game every week like in the professional game where 99.9% they just get a free game out of it!

Last season an away fan at Winch collapsed. We had a player then who is a doctor. He (obv having dealt with the guy's immediate needs) got on to the phone and had a Winchester ambulance there in 10 mins. The time it took for an ambulance to get to Mangotsfield was pretty disappointing, but someone has to pay for cuts to the capital gains tax and corp tax rates. And Buck House's repairs.

Tony Le Mesmer Sounds more like very uncertain times ahead for Basingstoke if you ask me.

It either works very well or more likely, the club goes down the toilet completely. You can't operate at that level FT without a big fan base or benefactor (which it seems they don't have). Once you rack up debts, the leagues are all over you with points deductions and demotions and that's pretty much that. See Farnborough.

The Full Time experiment went well then, already on to 'Plan B'. Step 5 football awaits. Or their ground will be sold for housing. Probably both.

Reading between the lines this is a lot more about Razzak walking away after the council pulled the rug from under their 'plan A'.

...I was a bit intrigued by the 'merge with another club' option within the multi - Plan B clauses? :?

...not that many midweek games suffered with the early week deluge - most had dried enough for play on Tue eve

Some results:
National League - full program
Aldershot 0-1 Eastleigh att 1600 odd
Dover 3-1 Woking

FA Trophy
Chalfont St P left the Trophy on pens (7-8) in their replay vs Burgess Hill

Southern
Premier
Chesham 2-0 Hitchin
Stratford 1-2 Sluff - 'Rebels' goals in the last 15' - then exited the League Cup the following night at Northwood - expect it must have been a much changed XI
SL1C
Ashford T 1-3 Hanwell
Fleet T 2-1 Aylesbury Utd
{Wed} Kidlington 3-0 Marlow
SL1S&W
Evesham 5-1 Wantage - Freds took the lead on 25'

League Cup
HandY 3-0 Egham - still @ at SYCOB Hayes & Yeading now have a new management team in place - Paul Hughes and Ritchie Hanlon. Previous boss Mickey Lewis left mid October.

CCL
Badshot Lea 3-2 Spelthorne - Baggy Lea, with a rare win, hop over Bedfont and Fetham at the foot of the table
CB Hounslow 2-2 AFC Hayes
{Wed} Guildford 0-4 CWU

HELLENIC
Henley Town 0-5 Bracknell Town - was at this - other choices washed out - Robins glided to an easy victory over struggling Red Kites - were two up very early on. With HIghworth's game at Highmoor/IBIS rained off, Bracknell are now up to 4th with games in hand - on a very good run too. Have recently beaten two of the sides above them.
Flackwell Heath 3-0 Ardley Utd
Thatcham 2-1 Burnham -rapidly improving Blues not quite good enough yet to salvage a point at Waterside - 'Kingfishers' stay top. Gifton Noel-Williams has stepped down as Burnham's boss after just 3 months in the job - too difficult to combine with his coaching work elsewhere. DoF 'Bluther Missit' 8) takes up the reins and they have no plans to appoint a replacement yet

Winchester City v Dulwich Hamlet

This will be my first game for a while.
This is the furthest the Citizens have been in this cup, and a decent crowd is expected. Dulwich fans seem to be up for it, judging by their forum.

City have been inconsistent lately, mainly due to throwing goal chances away. But we've beaten sides from a step above us twice this season, so, given this is a home game and with a bit more clinical finishing, I'm looking forward to this one.

(cue embarrassing 4-0 home defeat, with away fans vastly outnumbering and outsinging us)

One-nil defeat -
Dulwich are one step up from City, and were better than us - as evidenced by the fact that they scored a goal and we didn't- but it was a tight and enjoyable game. Dulwich are well supported and it was a decent crowd. Winch would have made more money if they had taken a chance and bought more ale, rather than running out before the game started and then again at half time having popped up to the brewery for another insufficient supply. Never mind.
