Goal-scorer watch

by muirinho » 17 Dec 2016 18:20

As Liam Moore scored today, it occurred to me that quite a number of our outfield players have scored so far even though we are only half way through the season. So in honour of the 106 team's efforts to get Murty on the scoresheet via a penalty I thought it would be worth looking at who should be practising their penalties coming towards the end of the season.

Including players with at least one League start, we have:

  • Chris Gunter............1
  • Joey Van Den Berg.0
  • Paul McShane.........2
  • George Evans..........2
  • Roy Beerens............4
  • John Swift................3
  • Deniss Rakels.........0
  • Jordan Obita...........0
  • Garath McCleary.....7
  • Dominic Samuel......2
  • Callum Harriott.......0
  • Liam Moore..............1
  • Yann Kermorgant....4
  • Stephen Quinn........0
  • Danny Williams.........3
  • Tyler Blackett...........0
  • Liam Kelly.................0

No, Swift and McShane in the league game.
VDB did get one in an early round of the league cup, but I wasn't including cup games as you get more fringe players involved

He did indeed... albeit at the wrong end.

Thought Harriott managed one in the league or was that the League Cup as well?

Technically I think Kelly scored yesterday but the lino missed it crossing the line.

So going with our most common team

Ali,
Gunts, Moore, McShane, Obita,
Williams, vdB*, Swift,
GMac, Beerens,
Kermorgant

(feels harsh not putting Evans* in as he's featured in... Every? game)

Goals are
0
1/1/2/0
3, 0(*2), 3
7, 4
4

Gosls are stacking up nicely across the spread of the team.

With our strikers (Kermorgant / Samuel) accounting for just over one in five goals scored.

[Pink Floyd mode]

We don't need no fancy forwards
All our players will score goals
Keep your poachers and your strikers
*Chris Gunter is gonna score some more

[/Pink Floyd mode]

*Replace with unlikely scorer of your choice.

It certainly has left us in a position that even lacking players like Swift, Williams and Kermorgant we have still chugged along nicely, I look at Brighton and wonder how they might manage if they lost Murray or Knockaert? They might have strength in depth, it's hard to say as it seems they've been quite fortunate with injuries.

Pretty sure all his goals were in the cup.

Meite will no doubt be added to our list of scorers soon. Been unfortunate to have one called offside and another given as an own goal.

Rakels and VDB will surely bag at least one each before the end of the season. Time to get Obita and Blackett taking penalties - can't be any worse at them than anyone else!

Obita is actually a pretty good penalty taker. Scored a very good one in the shootout with MK Dons.

Plus usually has good penalty taking stats on FM :?

I'd say get them on penalty duty, but probably better to ask them to follow up for rebounds.

I'd say JVDB is more likely to give away a penalty than score one.
