Four Of Clubs ... results from yesterday

SL1S&W
Bideford 1-2 Winchester City

Four straight wins for Winch - I really must start going to games again. Life is getting in the way of football at the moment.

This was all the more sweet as news of our injury time (dodgy) penalty win came through on twitter seconds before Reading's late winner came in on Final Score.

...indeed this good run has lifted them up to 13th and only a point or two behind Diddy and Nor Lye - they are 3rd on current form (last
6 games) with 5 wins in 6 - lost in the Trophy - their last league defeat was at home to North Leigh a month ago.

Are one of the very few 'local' sides in action this midweek: H v Slimbridge on Wed
- I'm half pondering a mad dash down to the Denplan - providing my eldest offspring hasn't pinched my car again! :D

Also slightly pulled to the north though, where Bicester host Highworth in a Floodlit Cup tie that night - haven't been to Ardley in quite a few years and the chance of a 'half-tick' there, gets the Anorak ruffling that bit faster!

Tuesday night has three 'local' games too : Sluff v MKD in the B&B Cup; Thatcham v Flackwell in the Floodlit or Aylesbury v Northwood in SL1C

...and (Monday) tomorrow, if I want to avoid the Scousefest on Sk(h)y(pe), my only outlet is likely to be SYCOB v Ch St.P also in the SL1C -
- though there are also couple of Cup games involving CCL sides; at AFC Hayes and SCR but I rarely fancy going inside the Orbital of a midweek evening.

Yup t'was there - wet drizzly night + mad dash down the M3; arrived a good 10' before KO which is remarkable for me!

Slimbridge were faster and sharper from the off but it was sabre vs foil and City just bludgeoned their way past a small and very porous back line to lead by 3 at H/T.

Feeney grabbed four - his last three in the 2nd half, running freely at will through a tiring defence. Home fans around me in the seats were half expecting a win of this magnitude remarking they had been missing a hatful of chances in the previous few games.

...previous night nipped along the A4 for a clash of 4th (Thatcham) v 3rd (Flackwell) in the Hellenic though this was in the Floodlit Cup so maybe not a high priority fixture for either side. Kingfishers may be slightly concerned how easily the Heathens mastered them and coasted to a 3-0 win. Decent crowd for a cup match too close to 100.

477 gate at Windsor's free entry game today.

1-1 draw, 2 pens, Windsor's equalising pen in 92nd minute after their keeper yanked our player out of the way as a corner was delivered.

Fair result, hard fought game, lenient ref and a few player confrontations as a result. I like a ref who lets things go to keep a game flowing but to be honest as a result of not stamping his authority on some offences that most refs do penalise the game did get a little out of control as it wore on.

Fun though.

SOUTH1C

Winchester City 0-1 Wimborne Town

CCLP
Abbey Rangers 4-3 Spelthorne Sports
Bedfont & Feltham 3-1 CB Hounslow United
Bedfont Sports 1-0 North Greenford United
- was our first game today having diverted en route from Stompond Lane - fairly dull fare; both sides played as if they'd overdone the festivities for a day or more - won by a suitably freak og just before HT.

Camberley Town 5-1 Farnham Town
Chertsey Town
3-4 Horley Town
Epsom & Ewell 1-1 Raynes Park Vale
Hanworth Villa 1-1 AFC Hayes
Hartley Wintney 2-2 Badshot Lea

Bagshot 3-5 Ash United
Cove 2-1 Dorking - only 2nd win for Cove this season and it lifts them off the bottom

Letcombe 1-0 Fairford Town

WESS1
Alton 4-1 Fleet Spurs
Shaftesbury 4-1 Pewsey Vale
Tadley Calleva 5-1 Andover New Street
- got to this for the 2nd games of the day- in spite of the f£c&in awful queues on the M25/M4
ANS were well in the game after levelling mid-way first half but eventually Brett Denham's tireless and powerful runs unravelled the visitors back line - he set up three 2nd half goals with driven crosses.

NL fixtures somewhat spread out across the holiday period - though some leagues haven't scheduled any around the NY w/e.

This evening surviving the prevailing fog, Flackwell Heath hopped over Bracknell into 2nd place with a 7-1 win over, what is looking like a terminally wounded, Henley Town in the Hellenic Premier.

KO times are pretty staggered too and not in a particulalry good way for us anoraks - hard pushed to get a decent double in - far too many 13:00 KOs which are neither one thing nor another - i.e. can't get a game in before and hard pushed to get to one after unless you leave before the end .

Anyway for those of you not indulging in another culinary creative variant of Turkey/Gammon leftovers - here's the choice of Sat/Sun games locally;

What's the situation re: York Road. How much work would need to be done for Natonal Conference level football. And if there was a miracle and Maidenhead challenged for FL status could they remain there?

Tarpey on target in a 2-0 win over Wealdstone (at last) yesterday. 10 points clear in National South

It's quaint, but although it's got a nice new stand in reality the ground itself is a bit of a dump and miles away from FL status.

According to this...
http://www.efl.com/global/appendix1.aspx

...to get in, a ground must hold 4000 (with the ability to rise to 5000) and have 500 seats (with the ability to raise to 1000).

After a season in, it has to hold 5000 (able to rise to 6000) and 1000 seats (able to rise to 2000).

York Road seems to currently have a capacity of 3250 with 550 seats, so it's not miles off the initial criteria. The problem would be more around expanding beyond that.

Soz for lack of preview of todays games - full prog in CCL & SL - spent too long planning my double last night so haven't caught up on Sat/Sun scores either ~ bumper post due later.

Currently nobbing from Cherrywood where Farnborough have just come from behind to lead vs 10 man Ashford.
Curtis Osano on now as sub.

My phone appears to hate HNA too - this is 4th attempt to post something - more ltr

The new stand is very good, but I'd have thought the entrance, facilities, terracing and covers (which may have absolutely nothing to do with anything for all I know) are way short of requirements.

Anyway, it would be brilliant if they could get to a position where their adequacy becomes a consideration.

... well they could certainly start by putting in a bigger bar - I was also there yesterday and it was heaving - though somehow just functioning in spite of the cramped conditions. Stand was more or less full too - though nearly everyone in a crowd of 1282, was trying to find shelter from the heavy drizzle.

Good 2nd half by Magpies against strong opponents - Tarpey the difference - carving open the left side of their defence - scoring one and setting up the winner for Marks.

Results from Monday 2nd Jan

SOUTHP
Banbury United 1-0 Leamington
Basingstoke Town 1-1 Dorchester Town
Kings Langley 1-0 Hayes & Yeading United
Slough Town
1-2 Chesham United - att 918 Rebels unable to capitalise on the leaders Leamington’s defeat at Banbury Generals win with two goals in as many minutes early 2nd half – old stager Barry Hayles with the first
SOUTH1C
Chalfont St Peter 1-3 Marlow
Egham Town P-P Beaconsfield SYCOB - waterlogged
Farnborough 2-1 Ashford Town (Mx) - att 379
- as mentioned above : was at this for my 2nd game -
– having spent far too many hours working out all kinds of possible perms of fancy doubles with time and distance considerations – I remembered how absotivekly kf£cked the motorways had been last B/H, so vowed to stay off them completely and kept both my games very local.
One thing of note – ‘boro are offering free burger and chips to anyone buying a drink at their Tea Bar for games throughout the month of January. 2nd placed Farnboro made very heavy weather of beating the Ashtrees – Perry Coles instrumental in turning it around. Current leaders Royston won 3-0 at home so no change at the top – Marlow tucked in neatly in 4th place.

Kidlington 3-4 Aylesbury United
Northwood 1-1 Hanwell Town
Petersfield Town 2-2 Fleet Town
Uxbridge 1-4 Potters Bar Town
SOUTH1S&W
AFC Totton 1-3 Winchester City - 2 for Green, one for Briggs
Hereford 2-1 Evesham United att 4406
North Leigh 2-2 Didcot Town
Wantage Town
0-5 Swindon Supermarine
Wimborne Town 0-1 Salisbury

ISTHP
Staines Town 3-0 Grays Athletic

CCLP
AFC Hayes 1-0 Windsor – visitors reduced to 10 men just before HT - goal from resulting free-kick
Badshot Lea 0-2 Camberley Town - think the visitors have made a change at Management level this week – long serving Dan Turkington has left for Godalming – who may very easily be in the CCL next season unless he can perform a minor miracle there.

Guildford City 2-3 Abbey Rangers
Hartley Wintney 2-0 Farnham Town
- was here for my first game; ‘ The Row’ eased past a game but limited Farnham. They now lead the table by a massive 16 points and have a game in hand.
Horley Town 4-0 Raynes Park Vale
Spelthorne Sports 2-1 Bedfont Sports
Walton & Hersham 4-2 Knaphill
Westfield
1-3 Chertsey Town ‘Fields’ 2 defeat in 3 sees them slip to 3rd behind Hanworth Villa
Sutton Common Rovers 1-1 Epsom & Ewell
Bedfont & Feltham 0-4 Hanworth Villa
North Greenford United 3-0 CB Hounslow United

CCL1
Dorking 0-5 Chessington & Hook United

Got to Torquay v FGR the other day, was in the area for New Year's celebrations so took in the game. 5-5 and a great game. Forest green were 5-3 down and got it back; but unfortunately have slid of the top of the league since they got Beat by Lincoln in the last few minutes weeks back. Very annoying

...not much action this MW understandable after the glut of games over the 2 B/H w/e - just tow games to note from Tue/Wed

Tue : WESSP Verwood 3-0 Whitchurch - 'JamBoys' slump badly vs the bottom side who leap up four places to sit just behind their visitors on GD
- elsewhere in the same division last night (Tue), both Fleet Spurs and Alton lost away - surprise result perhaps was former leaders Laverstock & Ford succumbing 1-4 at home to Shaftesbury - allowing Hamble Club to keep the top spot - though L&F have had some puzzling results of late. They also lay claim to having a certain James Vince in their forward line - the Test cricketer and apparently former RFC Academy lad.

Wed: WESS1 Andover New Street 3-0 Pewsey Vale - another rare win and even rarer 'clean sheet' for perennial basement side ANS - albeit over one of their regular contenders for the wooden spoon in this division. This result also sees a bottom placed side move up a few places - so congested are the sides that make up the dregs at the foot of the table.
