RUMOUR: Rogelio Funes Mori

by Reading4eva » 28 Dec 2016 18:48

Spoke to a Paul in the World Turned Upside Down after the match against Norwich. He informed me we are after an Argentine forward currently playing in Mexico. I initially thought it was the bloke from Everton but might be his brother.

Thoughts all?

Has scored 30 in 50 apperances for Monterray this season!!! not overly sure of the quality of the league and opposition though.

IN

Only if it's the guy from Everton's brother though (he looks a pretty decent Centre forward)

A "bloke down the pub says" story, therefore file away with a hearty collection of Saxa

Unless the Paul concerned was Paul McShane of course....

Oh do oxf*rd off R4E. Whatever hilarity you think your shtick is delivering, it's just coming across as tedious and purile.

If he is the Argentinian with an EU passport that Charlie Watts is on about, then his YouTube clips look promising. Again, the defending isn't great but he seems to take up decent positions in the box, a bit of a poacher. Certainly different to what we have.

Surely there is no hope of getting a work permit?

At 25 years old with only 1 international cap, he is not going to fit the criteria. Everton needed a work permit for his twin brother, so no EU passport floating around.

A quick google shows Everton argued he was an exceptional talent. Surely that is a tenuous argument to make if you are moving to second tier football.

Of course, if his identical twin brother is officially an exceptional talent - then legally he must be too! Could be a landmark immigration case!

He was at Benfica for two years. Portugal has less stringent citizenship laws so it is quite possible he got Portuguese citizenship. It's why Portugal is one of the more popular destinations for South American players, particularly Brazilians who immediately get Portuguese citizenship. Fast tracking into the EU.

He also spent 8 years in America so the language and culture probably wouldn't be a problem.

If he is the target then it suggests someone at the club had done a thorough job of scouting him.

Is there a point in even trying to figure out if this guy has a European passport? Charles watts has told us the guy we're after has a European passport so work permit won't be a problem, let's stop worrying yeah??

I can confirm that he does in fact have an EU passport having played in Portugal. Unfortunately the update I have is that Swansea and Sunderland are very much in the race for him

This is the name that's been going round since before Christmas. Will be interesting to see if there's any substance to it.
