Top Flight We have had some rare possession. Huddersfield are pressing us all over the pitch. They are calling it a gegen press. What does that mean anyone?

Usually heard in association with Klopp. The whole team pushes up and presses their opposite number, before the opposition have the chance to structure an attack. Bit of a buzzword, but not an uncommon one. Gets used on MOTD quite frequently so I'm surprised it's causing confusion.

This is why English managers get overlooked in favour of foreign coaches nowadays. They come with mystical football tactics like a gegen press which really just means working hard and closing down the opposition.
