Sutekh Be nice to think that the club - if it hasn't already - would reach out to Bobby and at least wish him the very best on our behalf.

Perhaps something STAR/Richard Wickson could look at doing with the club's blessing?

Thanks for alerting us to this. We will get something done and sent to him.

IIRC he was the first actual Reading player to play in the World Cup Finals (2006 USA).

Brum Royal A big rendition of "OLE OLE OLE Convey Convey" would be appropriate tomorrow, maybe in the 17th minute (his old squad number), as that seems to be the current trend.

Agree with Silver Fox and good shout Brum.

It all went down hill for him after he was arrested for stalking a girl at Reading Uni, it was covered up by the club (Local journalists knew), and he agreed to stop but then carried on anyway...

Well done Fine Rain for posting.
Rather than just chanting his name tomorrow could Star perhaps send a recording of that which would surely give him a lift because he would hear, rather than just read, the warmth felt for him by our fans..

It's a shame to hear this news. Like many others I have very fond memories of watching Bobby play for us. To me Bobby Convey and Glenn Little epitomise Steve Coppell's team in the 2005/6 season.

The early-season dismantling of Millwall, including one of the finest goals seen at the Madejski from Bobby Convey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi1woJ0KGbc

Think the Millwall goal is slightly undermined by the terrible defending. Bobby does well to stay on his feet, but the second defender who goes diving in should have stood off him rather than giving him a clear run to goal.

Convey scored a few crackers that year. For my money, the goals against Wolves and Norwich were the best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKNEo3iMHDA

Never really recovered from the injury he got early the next season (which resulted in Stephen Hunt starting against Chelsea).

A very good player and such a crucial part of the record-breaking team.

Shocked to see this news and thanks for the OP. I have family ties to the Greater Philadelphia area where Bobby first shone in the local leagues and aside from THAT goal against Millwall I will always remember his signing an autograph & having a chat after a home game in the 106 season. No coincidence that my user name is my personal nickname for him. A very special Reading player and my favourite in the Madejski era. Great to see STAR's response. Very best wishes Bobby and I hope you make a full recovery.

Sad news and very much one of our own.

Would be great to show more appreciation for Bobby and every member of that team.

Strange to think that there are Reading fans who don't remember the 106 team... but of course there must be.

No matter how long you've supported Reading (me - since 1969) or how old you are, that team and that season was the most exhilarating we've ever known.

Bobby Convey and the rest of the guys created a fairy tale that will never be forgotten.

Hope he will somehow see this thread and will know how fondly he's still remembered.

bluerinse Will always remember his goal against Millwall at home during the "106 " season. He started his run inside his own half, and just kept running before beating the goalkeeper.

All the best Bobby. Thought he was an under8ed player, even in the best team in Reading's history. Hopefully someone can send the link to this thread to him!

Yes, thanks STAR and also good to see a lot of kind responses. I hope there is a way we can pass something on to him.

Fantastic.

The Club/Star have always been good at honouring and respecting those important players/fans who aren't having the best of times. I'd love to see this highlighted wherever possible.

Any reminder of the 106 team is welcome, particularly when one of them isn't in the best place
