Ups & downs 16/17

by Winston Smith » 05 Mar 2017 13:11

Placeholder for when I can be arsed to write more than the below

Fleetwood look like they may well be the big football league story this season. Narrowly avoiding relegation last season they appointed Uwe Rosler in the summer and were having a very decent season by their standards anyway but have really stepped it up in recent weeks, they beat 2nd placed Scunny away yesterday and moved into 2nd spot themselves. They have Bolton next weekend then their fixtures are relatively kind. Scunny not been good recently though, maybe Bolton can sneak 2nd spot.

Shef Utd look fairly good to go up now barring a calamitous slip up. Bolton.

At the bottom Coventry are as good as gone. Chesterfield not looking too good either but could do it.

Swindon Vs Port Vale is a 6 pointer next weekend, especially as Swindon's run in does not look kind at all. Lose it and I reckon Swindon may well be doomed.

Fleetwood have had something mental like 6 promotions in a decade. Surely that must be some sort of record. I can see them and AFC Wimbledon in the championship together in a few years (maybe with Burton). Few years ago they were all in the conference

Also helped that Scunthorpe had a perfectly good equaliser ruled out. But nevertheless, c'mon Fleetwood!

Pompey can get up into the automatic promotion places if they beat Crawley away tonight

Scunthorpe lose yet again, they have gone from being top for so long to now being 2nd bottom of the form guide and can't buy a win. Helps keep Fleetwood in 2nd and means if Bolton win their game in hand they go 3rd, 1 point behind 2nd place.

Fleetwood Vs Bolton on Saturday

League 2 looking interesting with the teams that have taken up the top 3 spaces for so long now all in the bottom half of the form table leaving way for others to catch up.

Pompey went 3rd last night but Stevenage & Luton are both on a great run and also not far off pushing for 3rd spot. Stevenage Vs Luton coming up this saturday The loser of Notts County Vs Hartlepool this weekend will be looking over their shoulder too with Orient at home to out of sorts Grimsby.

Orient look to be trying their best to get relegated only 2 years after almost being in the championship in the playoff final. Can't recall a team going downhill as quick to the conference. I know blackpool and Yeovil have gone straight down but I cannot recall one to the conference. Stockport maybe?

Luton did it not so long ago with all their points docking shenanigans

Top half of Championship finish in 05/06 followed by 23rd placed finished, then 24th place in League 1 and then 24th place in league 2

Didn't Bournemouth start off one of those seasons with minus 30 or 15 points and still win the league?

If they drop he will go for a fair amount of money I reckon. Question is whether he will join your West Broms, your Stokes & your West Hams or can he go higher and sign for your Evertons or your.......?

Someone at Spurs must (shoud) be gnashing teeth,,,,,

He should either:

a) come home

b) go play elsewhere....

Actually, having given this subject nearly 3 mins of thought.....let's just see who manages Arseneal next season.

Was close to joining Everton in Jan, so I expect he'll end up there.

Bolton firmly up into 2nd place now with a game in hand too.

2nd half of Scunthorpe's season is just a whole bunch of WTAF?? May not even finish in the play offs now. Millwall looking strong in 7th and with a few games in hand too.

Swindon looking in a mess near the bottom too. 7 points from safety now with a worse GD than all above them.

Pompey looking ok in 3rd in Div 4 now but Stevenage are on a great run and beat them at the weekend.

chase for the play offs looks great. 8 points separates 5th place down to 13th.
