But Man Utd themselves were talking about the treble this season before getting knocked out of the FA Cup by your other club so there is no strict definition of THE treble just any person's idea of A treble.

Yes there is a strict definition. The treble is

League champions
Champions League winners
FA Cup winners.

Of course you can do A cup treble but it isn't THE treble. HTH.

"strict definition"-who said so?

Don't forget that English clubs didn't enter the European Cup competition until the early 60s which was about the time that the League Cup was introduced.

League > League Cup
FA Cup == FA Cup
CL > Europa

Your 2005&7 seasons were better*

I'm not sure why you're bringing the league cup into this. It's never counted as part of THE treble.

I have to say that Kes is a Martin Peters (ahead of his time).
A few months ago he started using "frothing at the mouth " instead of his previous oft-used "meltdown" and the expression seems to be everywhere in the media.

Unfortunately he can't be good at everything and he has not come back to me with the definitive about THE treble.
A treble is whatever treble you want it to be IMHO.

I await the "it's generally agreed" which is often used by politicians and others where something cannot be proven and is just an opinion.

The majority of people are agreed THE treble is the League, CL and FA Cup. All except most Liverpool fans.

Do you think you'd win the treble if they abolished the back pass rule? You were good back then.

Not convinced there is such a definitive thing as the treble. If there was I'd say it would be a clean sweep of the domestic competitions. Everything else is a just a treble.

You are spot on.

It is A treble and not THE treble.

If you win the JPT, League 2 and FA Trophy that is a treble still, and just as good as winning the Champions League, PL and FA CUP.

That's called the domestic treble.

Prem, CL, FA Cup is The treble.

It's not possible to do a treble of the JPT, League 2 and FA Trophy. :|

I'm using this as a random example because it won't be too long before the best conference teams are in the JPT seeing as under 21 teams are.

There you go right on cue with "The majority of people are agreed", a statement with no foundation.

Dunno why I'm even bothering with this on here, but.....

As a spotty yoof of the 1970's THE treble was acknowledged as:

League
FA Cup
League Cup

the european shizz was just a luxury embellishment for the lucky few that qualified to partake......and won

as was the "fun time" Charity Shield........

Oh, and I agree that Liverpool's treble of cup wins should not be called the treble unless its in the context of "Gary, tell is about the treble of cups you won that season".
