Silver Fox I think the biggest red herring is "our playoff form" considering I don't think there's a single person even on the non-playing side still involved from our last playoff campaign

Defo.. file under 'bogey teams' 'never win on Sundays' etc etc

It depends really whether we go into the final making a massive thing of us never winning the play off final, like we are cursed or something. Little things like that can get into players' heads. It might only make 1% difference, but that might be enough.

Think of all the England players, for example, who must go into penalty shootouts "knowing" England always lose penalty shootouts. It's going to have an impact. Not a massive one, but anything that knocks confidence doesn't help.

Personally I think if we get past Fulham, the final will be anybody's. In playing terms, there'll be no obvious favourite.

If we get to the final, with the way we play, we will beat any of them.

As we're bandying about terms like Poisson distribution and chi-squared test, I also ought to point out that there is no statistical significance in the fact that Reading have been been one of the unsuccessful 3 teams in their previous 5 play-off attempts.

If you're betting on Reading to win then I reckon SkyBets 9-1 on us beating Wednesday in the final is the best odds.

Have had a bit of us to win at the Cottage on Saturday (17/4 with Skybet) and us to be promoted at 5/1 (with Skybet).

Worth a dabble for those odds.

We are one of only 2 clubs to achieve the hat trick of play off final defeats at the old Wembley, Millenium Stadium and the new Wembley.

The other is Sheffield United and they got promoted this season.

I think 5/1 for us to win the play offs is great odds and we are 4/1 to win at Craven Cottage. Considering we were third and Fulham sixth and we won 7 of our last 10 games to their 6 of 10 these seem crazy odds to me so I have lumped some money on both eventualities.

I guess it is just because we lost 5-0 there last time but I cannot believe that we will do so badly again. If I was even more of a betting man than I am I would go for a 1-0 to Reading away and then a high scoring draw (2-2) at the Madstad. And then we beat Sheff Wed in the final.

I will most likely lose as usual but hey ho.

Bet365 are still offering 6/1 on Reading to get promoted. Put your money where you will find the longest odds. I have £100 with Bet365.

Bet365 are also offering 2.5 for Reading to qualify for the final.
And they are offering 5.75 for us to beat Fulham at the Cottage on Saturday.

Can we win at the Cottage on Saturday? I am tempted to jump on that one as well, but I think we could be quite negative in our approach. I can't predict how Stam will approach the first leg. His only indication is that we will treat it like a European tie over two legs and not like a league match where we play open football looking for three points. It suggests we could be parking the bus and playing it around the back for 90 minutes. The nil nil like others have suggested could be a good option. But I fear that if we play for a nil nil we will make some crazy error and concede goals.

Bet365 are offering 13/1 on a nil nil.

Why don't you go for an accumulator with 0-0, Reading win, Reading win. It'd be better than getting Mayfair in McDonalds.

Indeed. I got 19/4 on bet365 for a result on Saturday. That's incredible odds for a game like this.

Interesting to see Fulham are still overwhelming favourites to win the tie. We are about 2/1 to win the game in 90mins.

The bookies really don't seem to rate us this year
