tmesis WAZZOCK Nope, but considering the club are given a set allocation each season, the notion that we launch our kit 'late' is nonsense. Launching towards the end of July is clearly a conscious decision taken by the club to get people talking about it, year after year.
The "talk" though, is all about why are the club incapable of organising a kit launch on time. It's not excitement about the new kit.
We just seem to be late with everything. The pre-season felt a bit half-arsed and last minute, for example. We need to play our only home friendly away, as the pitch won't be ready. Anyone who went to Burton Albion, for example, and bought the programme, will have noticed their pre-season games were already arranged by the last weekend of the season.
The kit has been late every year for as long as I can remember, and it's often late arriving in the shops too. Either we've consistently hit upon a marketing ploy that no other club, even those who make fortunes from marketing, have thought of, or we just do things late because that's how we've always done it.
Stop saying it's 'late', it's getting ridiculous now.
We've never got to the first game of the season when we haven't known what the kit will be, so it's never been 'late'.
Completely ignore what other clubs do relating to their kit launch for one second - don't you think approximately 10 days before the start of the season is a prime time to release the information? It adds to the buzz of the new campaign that's coming up, whilst it will also coincide with increased footfall at the stadium shop.
As mentioned, we sold out with plenty of time to go last season, so I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt.
Similarly, we have absolutely no idea what the knock on effect of last season's prolonged campaign was. Therefore I would cut them a bit of slack regarding the pre-season schedule.
