...some select results from yesterday's PSFs:

Alton 2-2 Abingdon Utd
Bedfont Sports 5-2 Welling
Slough 0-0 Wycombe

Tournament (Larges Lane)
Day i) Sat
Bracknell T 3-4 Eversley & C
Binfield 3-2 Wok & Emm
Day ii) Sun
Bracknell T 3-1 Binfield
Wok & Emm 2-4 Eversley & C (Sumas were 2 up)

...we ventured back to the picturesque wilds of east Gloucestershire, to the tiny hamlet of Hatherop. No spectator 'furniture' as such; pitch is hidden away in the village. Situated in a public field through a gate signed to the Church -the ground is next to the very twee little stone church in the grounds of what was a stately home.
The fields surrounding are also occupied by some fairly large Bulls which make recovering stray footballs a bit perilous. :?
We could have stayed behind afterwards for some hospitality, in their minute little clubhouse (sadly not opened during the game) but opted for a brief tour of hostelries (Coln St Andrew & Radcot) on the way home.

Hatherop 2-5 Clanfield '85

Windsor FC for about 6 years now.

Keaton August does look good, the most exciting amongst an excellent young crop in my opinion. I saw him in 3 or 4 U18s games and he scored 5 goals and made a couple. Fast and tricky but, unlike many I've seen, he also made good decisions when advancing on goal.

Compared to others youngsters who had lots of minutes in the 1st team I thought he was underused but I suspect that was because he was carrying an injury.

Can't say he would be good enough for Reading though.

What rave reviews have you seen?

Thanks Roth

He had a full page spread in the Non League Paper a couple of weeks ago, several of our local NL clubs are apparently monitoring his WC progress....and will maybe want a chat on his return, and of course NZ themselves have had the feedback to have scouts in and around Stag Meadow.

Tbf, the Reading youth thing was a bit of a throw-away line, but given his young age and what reads like potential, there might just be a place for him somewhere in the leagues??

Windsor 0-6 Maidenhead

Tarpy scored 4 in the 1st half - different class.

Windsor have signed 45 year old Barry Hayles (ex Premier League striker). He will play a bit but also help in the coaching department and I'm sure will have a significant impact off and on the pitch even if the latter in short bursts!

Also Jack Denton has joined for this season, recently released from Reading having been at the Academy for most of the last decade. He should be awesome at this level.

What's the feeling at Windsor around the switch to the Hellenic RR?

A good thing? Or a pain in the backside?

Not too fussed myself but I seem to be the only one who's not actually pleased.

A number of the CCL away grounds are pretty desperate but for me, just how picturesque the away ground is of little importance, I just go to watch a game - so having a number of away days that are 70+ miles away is a bit of a pain. Most games in the CCL could be reached even on a weekday night, but possibly not now.

Most of the fans I know are very happy, but living off J5 of the M4 the likes of the Bedfonts, Spelthorne, CB Hounslow and Chertsey are probably closer than the local derbies others are salivating over at Ascot, Burnham, Bracknell and Binfield.

Bracknell Town seem to be 'hoovering' up a lot more local players - Ferdinand from Binfield the most notable as a replacement for TJ Bohane whose stepped up to Supermarine.
Even Aaron Kuhl 'guested' for them on Saturday's 4-0 win over Wokingham & Emm.

They turned the tables on the Boars from Eversley & California, winning 7-1 in the Final of the four team Tournemant they were hosting. Eversley had beaten them 4-3 last w/e in the group stage.
Binfield won the 3rd place match 4-2 vs Wokingham & Emmbrook.

double d Who are your teams/players to watch this season FoC ?

Answer the 2nd bit first.... as it's easier/quantitative:

...still working on my 'new' records ahead of the season - some completely 'new' teams have come in at the lower end of the Pyramid locally and I've got several Norfolk/Suffolk/Essex clubs to do to complete the Isthmian Leagues - as well as another half-a-dozen within 2 hours range around the far end of the M25 - which I'd like to 'tick' .

Add in a couple of clubs at new/refurbed grounds to re-visit, closer to home and that might take me up to Xmas or even beyond around RFC fixtures.

Would like to think I can better my efforts from 16-17: - 119 NL matches which included 38 'new ticks' - not bad considering the latter category is almost exclusively restricted to w/e & holidays ... and of course unlike a lot of true hardcore Anoraks I do have the added 'burden/duty'' of following that 'other' team.

1st bit might take a bit more thought - might re-visit the topic after I've seen a few more PSFs.
- so far the only team that have stood out as being that impressive are Newbury who have a particularly bright looking striker for that level (Langford). If they can maintain commitment - which could be an issue what with the uncertainty surrounding the future of the club itself - and start tearing up the TVL-P, I'd imagine a couple of local STEP05 clubs might come a-knocking for him. He did notch quite a few last season - close to 30 in the league.

Not seen enough yet of the main Hellenic Premier teams and there will have been a lot of player movement around the promoted sides close season but it does seem difficult to look past the pulling power of Bracknell Town. They ought not to miss out on promotion this term - also be interesting to see if Thame can sustain their form of last season at the higher level.
Expect Flackwell will contend again - Highworth always look strong and Windsor could adapt to their new league well, if their youth players continue to progress and can cope with the reportedly more physical aspect of some clubs in this league.

One of the 'western' clubs might emerge as surprise contenders (Lydney, Tuffley, Longlevens or Brimscomb); can't honestly see any of the promoted clubs doing more than surviving and the relegated 'Freds' (Wantage) had such a poor record in 16-17 it's hard to envisage them recovering quickly enough to push at the top - they looked disjointed last week when I saw them.

Will witter away about other local leagues in due course ...... 8)

Wow impressive and just over 2 games a week.

Unsure if its a new ground although it does look One, i go past cb Hounslow on the way to work. It is an utterly stupid location down 1 way streets in the middle of an industrial estate. Looks not half bad little pitch that. I'm thinking of going to few local ones too around brighton, Burgess hill and heywoods heath as Mrs dd grandparents moves up there soon and in the warlingham area where her mum lives.

You are quite right a new ground for the 2017/2018 season.
