According to greek media, you're on the verge of signing (soon to be former) Panathinaikos-defender Rasmus Thelander on a free transfer. Due to smaller injuries and problems with the payments of his salary, he is going to be released from his contract now. Anyone who has heard of these rumors?

Google translate:

Tollander is very close to the departure
Rasmussen Toltender is a ... breath of being a past from Panathinaikos, which Reading is expected to take advantage of.

Rasmussen Toltender is in the focus of Reading, with the English waiting for the Dane to leave Panathinaikos to bring him to the Island.

According to the Greek press, the "greens" have met with the side of the central defender and as it all seems to be a matter of a few days the player will be a past from Greece and from the clover.

Strange number for a striker but I'm sure Gayle won't mind too much.

I'm trying to! Where did he originally posted this rumour? All I saw was you saying "dear God (insert username) what have you done?"

Plus Stephen Reid's sudden departure.

Doesn't make pretty reading does it. The squad has been pretty much decimated this summer with only a few signings made. What really concerns me is the number of youngsters released or sold. Can't provide much inspiration to the current academy players. I strongly fear we are going to start next week with a thin and unbalanced squad which also opens the possibility of last minute panic buys being made, at which point we are at the mercy of an extremely inflated market and mercenary players and agents. I have to say this smacks of extremely poor management I'm afraid.

We release lots of academy players every year. Surely it is heartening that so many are continuing as professionals rather than dropping out entirely?

We really haven't lost many first teamers at all. Williams and Al-Habsi basically, one of whom we've directly replaced. We've trimmed the squad and it's looking lean rather than threadbare, or bloated as it often has in recent years.

From TTE

Reading’s incoming transfer activity may be going slowly this summer, but their contract renewals have been in full-force. Today, John Swift joins Liam Kelly, Chris Gunter, Jaap Stam, Luke Southwood and Lewis Ward in committing his future to the club for the coming seasons.

With his contract due to expire in 2019, the 22 year-old has signed a new agreement that will last until 2022.

John Swift plied his trade at Chelsea at youth level since 2007, although he only made one appearance for the senior team. Out on loan, he featured for Rotherham (4 apps), Swindon (19) and Brentford (28).

Having left Chelsea at the end of his contract, and joining Reading last summer, he enjoyed a fine debut campaign in Berkshire. He played 42 times for the Royals, grabbing nine goals and eight assists on the way. The attacking midfielder capped off 2016/17 in style by turning out for England in the u21s European Championship.

That fine season was clear evidence of his potential, and it’s great news to see that Swift is so keen to build on that in the next five years of his career.

Ron Gourlay who, like Swift spent time earlier in his career at Chelsea, told the official site:

“A midfielder of John’s calibre and undoubted potential, promising the next five years of his career to what we are striving to achieve at Reading, is a clear demonstration of both commitment to the cause from an exciting, creative midfielder and long-term ambition from the club and its owners.

“I am delighted to have secured the services of such a talented young footballer until 2022!”
