Last 100 players on loan

by NewCorkSeth » 21 Jul 2017 20:09

Read this http://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/leeds-united-fan-ludicrously-rated-100-loan-signings-since-2004/ yesterday. Seemed like a fun idea for any more knowledgeable fans than me.
Anyone feel up to it?

Interesting how we've never loaned a player whilst in the Premier League.

I've rated the ones I've seen/can remember out of 10. This is based on expectation level vs reality and general impact on the team. It also solely includes time spent on loan (i.e. If we signed them permanently before or after, this isn't taken into consideration)

Pretty sure we have Adi Viveash on loan in 94/95 because he scored an own goal in a torrential downpour at Burnley.

WAZZOCK 2011/12
18. Matt Connolly 5

Very harsh, deserves at least a 7. Was fundamental to our defensive dominance before his injury iirc.

The injury is why he is a 5 and cannot be any higher. No matter how well he played in his six games, that season was all about Gorkss and Pearce.

And what of the 24 loans before 1991/1992 (only 24 as I didnt see Tommy Wright and Steve Blatherwick in the original list) - did Reading even have that many loans before then?

For the record I recall

Steve Death 1970 - presumably the first player loaned to the club (and obvs. a 10)
Paul Lemon 1989
Bob Hazel 1988

Nigel Stephenson and Sean Reck in 1985-86

Nigel Vaughan and Nicky Platenaur in 87

George Shipperley in about 79?

Terry Bullivant in 83.

Was Dave Madden originally on loan before signing permanently in 88?

Mark Robson in about 87 or 88?

I think Dave Cowling originally came on loan in 87 before signing permanently

I see you're point, but if Grabban is a 5 and Vydra is a 6 everyone else should by default be given an automatic 10.

Being more serious though Pearce and Gorkss were very solid but Feds deserves huge praise as well, at times single handedly kept us in games. The amount of games I remember where we were to a degree battered and then go up the other end and win the game with virtually our only shot on target was staggering.

96/97 Steve Mautone

Reasonable keeper from memory, on loan and then permanent. Pretty sure his song was about him being on loan

Happy to be corrected, but this is my list as of today:

I am biased but I still think our first ever loanee turned out to be our best. Although respect to our 103rd.

Just realised I also missed Terry the Taxi joining us on loan latter part of 83/84 - although he never made a 1st Xi app. ENFA doesn't mention his loan stint, but Rothmans 84/85 does on page 80 and 429, so many thanks to the OP for that snippet.

Which means Jordan Mutch was our 130th loanee.
