We all read that we had a bid of £8m accepted but then within the following 24 hours Newcastle offered £12m for Murphy, enough to take the pressure off Norwich which allowed them to keep Oliveira, who guarantees the goals. If the agreement was reached a week sooner, then maybe the player would have signed for us. Looks to me that this ship sailed onced they banked Murphy’s money.

I read it more in the context of the rumours - a "See, that's why you were wrong about me" to Farke, who clearly thought he could live without him in the squad.

Tough one now for them, pretty prolonged aggression at the manager can't end well right? Surely keeping him and starting him undermines Farke after his first ever "professional 1st team" managerial game. Its a situation an experienced coach would struggle with...

This reminds me of the Ceefax top scorers page. Any player signed mid-season would have their goals combined, even if they were in a different division. I remember being outraged at this but forget any specifics.

Could have been Malcom Christie leading the 1999 premier league goal charts based on his record at Nuneaton but that took a bit of googling...

Take it from someone who knows maffff well, he isn't a WUM. If he says he saw discussions taking place then he did. It doesn't however mean a deal will be agreed.

If you take a look a Craig Beazley's Twitter, he said on 25 July that the deal was still on, and last night he claimed a £9.5m offer had been submitted and expected an announcement within a week. He too isn't the sort to play the fool and is respected by those that know him. So lets just wait and see.
