Huh. I just looked up the match reports for goals scored and see who was attributed assists. I didn't think to check the own goal.
Do you think going forward we should count O.G. assists?

To suggest a 50 yard run and fierce shot that took a deflection into the goal isn't an 'assist' is barking ! In my mind that was 100% Popa's goal and in the era of proper goal attribution it wouldn't have even been put down as an 'own goal' !

Agree totally. For the purposes of NewCorkSeth's little table, it should definitely count. Sort it out!

I'm happy to put it as an assist if that's the general concensus but I think you may need to rewatch it.
It wasn't a shot it was a cross. If it didn't take the deflection it would have gone across the goal mouth.

I think having it written this way makes it easier for us to see if players are making an impact for the bench. (Obviously there's more to football than goals and assists but at the halfway point it would be interesting to know if a player is strong coming off the bench)
