Mannone was probably the best goalkeeper we could’ve got. Much more well rounded than AAH and his experience, well speaks for itself. He’s really improved too, he seems to have got his confidence back which is a massive boost. I just hope his off the pitch worries have only a positive effect on it, to motivate him further to make his mum proud like what seems to be the theme with footballers

Cosistancy in team selection has helped but also the widemen appear to be further forward. There's more of a positive vibe as well. Aluko and Barrow (who is my player of the season) do what they do best now. Love JVDB.....seems so much more confident on the ball. Edwards also has added steel. I think we are in great shape to take on Cardiff. Could be a cracker.
Please Jaap don't tinker, I think you may have found the system and team that might just haul us up the table.

AthleticoSpizz Others disagreed (obviously)....think a lot of votes were raised from his friendly persona, his poor start and subsequent improvement at the club.......and of course, the crackin saves.

No complaints with his successor

AAH started poor - the incessant passing back to goalkeeper game didn't suit him but he got better and better. I saw him pull off one of the best saves I've ever seen. Fcuk it, the best save I've EVER seen live. It had everyone in the ED stand standing up to applaud. I've really not seen that before.

Yes, he came across as a lovely chap (my Bolton supporting chum backs this up - AAH is a lovely chap) but he could come off his line, close down angles and pull off some really quite special saves one on one. In other words a great keeper and well liked.

Mannone hasn't really done it for me yet, however I think he's a good keeper and is a good replacement.

tbf looking back the last 30 years, we've had some really great keepers haven't we?

there magic you knowww aluko and modou barrowwwww

nice to see the team finally clicking, Cardiff will be a great test and Reading teams always seem to be up for games against Colin if we get 3 points in that I wouldn't rule out the play offs.

Main 'keepers playing for Reading during my time supporting them;

Scott Howie
Phil Whitehead
Marcus Hahnemann
Adam Federici
AAH
Vito Mannone

Pretty good list IMHO.

I remember Phil Whitehead making an absolute howler at home to Peterborough in I think 2002, or 03? Where he kind of threw it in the net

Always sticks in my mind too when I think of whitehead. In front of north stand, shot from distance, he lined up all wrong for it, combination of arm, shoulder, up and over and in lol.

If you're going to have a go at Phil Whitehead for anything surely it's the moment in that incredibly wet game against Oxford where he slid to stop a ball going out for a corner but carried on sliding, leaving the ball on the line and an easy goal for Oxford. Maybe less disappointing as he had Tony Rougier to save the day

Scott Howie? He got subbed at HT at Wycombe when we were getting minced. Last time I saw a keeper get the hook. Mind you, prolly to save him from the Reading fans behind the goal.

Did anyone see the kerfuffle in the stands where a Sunderland fan allegedly pulled his trousers down and was suspected of taking a dump in the stands?

Didn't say it was a perfect list by any means, just pretty good. SH played over 100 games for the club to give him credit.

He got absolutely crucified in a disgraceful manner by some of our so-called fans at Wycombe that day. The treatment was verging on inhumane. I would have felt sorry for the guy even if he had been playing for a team against us. He showed amazing mental toughness to come back from that, put it behind him and develop into a very good keeper.

Going back earlier on the list you can add Shaka Hislop, Steve Mautone, Steve Francis and Steve Death.

LWJ .

Hi LWJ, saw your flag up at Sunderland - pat yourself on the back young man, heroic stuff.

What a win. Could see it coming though. Anyone thinking Coleman was going to turn around that crock of shit straight away must be dreaming - they've got huge issues. Bring on Cardiff

Poog8 fan gives his side of the story http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... i-11638099

He said he had only eaten two chocolates from his advent calendar before drinking 12 bottles of beer and six pints of fruit cider on the day of the match.

With 11 vs 11 could have been a very different second half.
