Theroyalbox I feel as a fan for so long ive never felt so distanced from the club, I know its a small thing but a fans meeting with Stam/Gourlay/Tevreden could go a long way but none of them seem to be interested in the fans. This is why people won't back the boys

Wasn't it not long ago that Tevreden was buying fans drinks in a bar somewhere?

Pandoras Box
Albert Park So the general feeling is the players are over paid and undeserving of our praise, vocal support and I totally get that - but We support Reading ! No matter who wears the shirt - when I say we get behind the team - its not the individual players of whom will probably move on and may or may not even give a shit - its Reading Fc as a whole, Reading Fc as our team, Reading as our bloody town!

Don't fully agree with this sentiment AP.
Many town/city teams are now simply brand names.
When you look at the players/managers of say the two Manchesters, who is actually playing for the city of Manchester and that community and who is playing under a lucrative contract and will clear off as soon as a better offer comes along?

If you really want to make this our town team, we need to start bringing in those youngsters who have been in Reading's academy and grown up as a part of our community.
If we did this whole heartedly, I for one wouldn't be so bothered with the results because it is my home team and I'd support them come rain or shine and be more forgiving with performances.
However, when the team is full of say Dutch journeyman or players who probably couldn't even find the town centre, I don't believe they have any real interest in our community (apart from PR gigs) and are more interested in their personal career paths or seeing a career out.
And that's OK, but expect me to show the same loyalty to them as they do to us and expect to be more readily criticised.

Let's be honest, Stam would have gone to any team with a decent offer on the table, it just so happened he came here.

Even a lot of the academy players only join in their late teens now - Smith and Richards examples of that

It genuinely would be nice to have a few more local lads in the side and hopefully that will happen in the near future with Barrett, Obita and Kelly involved. Believe both the lads who signed yesterday are from Reading as well

Forbury Lion Most go there to be entertained and most pay good money, If you pay to watch a film and it's crap you're going to moan about it, same with football.

Not really. Forget entertainment, I go because it's a passion. They are two different things, and they always have been. And I've got almost 60 years in it. The 'movie' analogy is so old, and it's absolutely ludicrous. Or, it should be. How many movies have come and gone in my 60 years? Did any of them change my team? I mean, come on, get a grip. Seriously.

From what I hear, they have cinemas in Leeds, Cardiff, Derby, and Preston. And in Birmingham, Burton, Barnsley, Bradford, Brentford, Bristol, Burnley, Bolton, Blackburn, Brighton, Bournemouth, and Bury, too. Lotsa cinema's there, boys. Well, maybe one or two, anyway. And what, they never saw a bad movie there?

We have the body language experts who somehow know Stam has totally lost the dressing room. It's a 'gut feeling', I'm a big boy behind a keyboard, and don't mess with me, stuff. And, how we should have a protest. The 'parking lot protest' in reverse, perhaps? And at the same time we now have that same dressing room telling fans to STFU and back the boys. How embarrassing. Happens all the time at every club, right?

But hey, don't you worry. Stam will be gone. And maybe now, he should be. Can you imagine if he stayed and actually won us promotion next season? It wouldn't sit well, would it? Lets not even go there. In some ways it would actually be uglier then, than it is now. But hey, we are likely the least of Stam's worries. He will get a job anywhere pretty quick, if he wants it. Playoff final loss on pens in Champ in first job as young foreign manager. Yet barely eight games later, no kidding, the 'In/Or out' thread starts right in here, in our very own illustrious HNA. Yep, in our own most very decorated past, that is. Learning as we go, maybe. If I wasn't here to see it, I'm not sure I'd actually believe it. And what's left is our, uh, party. A few pints, boobs and beer, and 'I'll take your ten, and I'll raise you ten, and I can insult him, and you, with more swear words than you can' heh-heh, ha-ha! Now, forgetting semantics and style of play, just for one second. Does that happen at many of the clubs I listed above within a season and half? If not, why not? (Edit: I followed a poster in here this past week or so, hoping to learn something about footy, and in about twenty posts on various threads, the only thing I gleaned is that he wanted Stam out. Talk about wanting him to change a broken record...).

The entitlement in here has to be seen to be believed. Sheesh, he only has a season and half left on his deal anyway. Wait til other clubs hear of this. They must be laughing at us, because they don't think we are/were all that much anyway. 'Get over yourselves', comes to mind. You are a long time fan, like me, Forbury. It has been disgusting, and I hope I don't see it again in my lifetime any time soon. If we do go down this season I just hope it won't have had anything to do with fan support or lack thereof.

And, what of 'Albert Park'...the poor bloke who felt moved to just post for his first time in here in 30-odd years of support...and took his kid...and said please calm down on all the negativity? He was essentially run out of town. It makes you think a bit, no?

You have the floor, Forbury...

First a disclaimer, I've not read all of your post in one go and may have missed some of it - people keep expecting me to do work, just because I'm sat at my desk and being paid to do work, they don't understand this is more important.

I've said it many times, r me promotion isn't everything, I would rather watch entertaining championship football than watch a team winning with negative tactics in the premier league. If we stick with Stam's tactics and personnel and we do get promoted by passing the ball backwards for 85 minutes in each game and then scoring the winner, I will be happy the fact we got promoted but wouldn't feel like I got value in terms of entertainment and will still be in favour of a change.

Right now we are in a relegation fight and winning is everything, the club should do whatever it takes to get points on the board. The short term future is more important than any long term plan, If Stam can't turn it around he has to go, no question about it. If the board feel he is the best man to turn things around they have to back him in the transfer market We need a striker, a left back and anyone else who can help shore up our defence.

I'm not against sticking with Stam as long as we are winning, When we are safe from relegation we can look at things again and try to understand why things went wrong. In fact, the biggest issue I have with Stam is that he won't try something different - He has nothing to lose by testing out some Plan B tactics, particularly if it's a game it looks like we've already lost - Is there nobody at the club (team captain) who can offer suggestions to the manager or are they afraid he'll bench them? - Doesn't the assistant manager have any input or is he just a yes man?

I admire you for your (I assume) positive passion, I personally would like to see some of the players showing some passion.

I don't, likewise I don't start booing or making snidey comments during a football match..... but I would comment about it on the internet.
