He was fantastic under McClaren, then Pearson came in and bought Vydra, so Martin went on loan to Fulham. When McClaren came back to Derby after Pearson's shambolic tenure, Martin wanted to link up with him again so kicked up a stink trying to persuade Fulham to terminate the loan.
Meanwhile Derby signed Nugent, then signed Winnall and Tom Lawrence in the summer. So that was him 4th choice even before Cameron Jerome arrived.

He's here because we're not in any way a promotion rival.

I’m well aware of his history. Like I say, would love to be proved wrong. Time will tell.
