Did Bullivant or Burns take us to a play-off final? I think he's well past his expiration date as our manager but come on

Forest Gump At least 9 lost points are due to Stams deliberate fielding of a team without a forward to make a point about the “lack” of transfer funds.

:?

We didn't have a fit striker, and iirc we won two games in that run? Clement probably had his best game for us against Villa.

No guarantee we'd have won them if we'd played Smith.

Burns spent 700k on Graeme Murty.

Record fee for Reading at the time.

Bullivant spent 250k on Linvoy Primus I believe.

Not sure who bought Carl Asaba but he cost 800k.

So yes there was money to spend but we rarely spent it wisely, until the days of Brian and Nicky.

Burns spunked absolutely tons given the comparative level and football inflation.

Was it £500k for Evers for example... our worst waste of money signing for a very long time, arguably more so than Fae and Halford who we at least got our money back on.

Ignoring frees, Burns spent

Fleck £50k
McIntyre £440k
Howie £30k
Gray £100k
Brayson £100k
Crawford £50k
McLaren £100k
Evers £500k
Sarr £158k
Forster £650k
Murty £700k
Kromheer £150k
Brebner £300k
Casper £300k
Gurney £100k
Barras £20k
Scott £250k
Smith £100k

That's £4.2m in 18 months, £3.5m of which was spent in League 1.

Bullivant bought Asaba for £800k and Hodges and Primus for £500k, Bowen (£200k), Legg (£65k) and Davies (£175k)

He spent a shedload but ultimately the highest outlays on Murty and Fozzy was money very well spent.

Not really under his tenure though as both spent very large periods out injured early on.

You can't judge Stam's signings on how they do under him and Burns' on how a couple did under Pards and Coppell.

And Stam has brought in some very good players.

Not a lot Burns could do about the injuries. The money he spent on them was proven to be justified albeit under other managers.

Are we over-rating some of Stam’s signings? Serious question because the likes of Moore and Swift who were so impressive last season have gone backwards. Look at how Beerens was this season compared to last season. Evans has gone backwards too.

He came in at a time when we were in complete freefall. Not much he could do from late March onwards. Yes he signed some crap but Murty, Fozzy and Brebner were quality signings and Mcintyre improved and was half decent. Howie was ok too.

Henley Royal 1 Twenty years ago to the day we lost at Oxford 3v0 this team and manager have the same symptons its relegation for us .

Crikey. That game remains the nadir of my Reading supporting life. A terrible, terrible night for multiple reasons.

This is the shower of shite that Jaap is up against if he wants to take the mantle of Worst Ever:

Forest Gump This is the worst Reading Team ever and Jaap Stam is the worst manager that we have ever had.
Discuss!

Someone wil have the stats to challenge me but given that he has been allowed to spend more on players than we ever have done I believe that he should do the honourable thing and walk.
It is not helping that he refuses to resign: not having a manager would actually help the team at this moment.
Again - discuss.

But for my money we should sack all the Fokkers.

( Fokker is of course a Dutch name):
Spot on.

I would struggle to find my own arse in the dark.

Ok then, but I don’t see that as much of a consolation because they sure look like shit players right now.

Forest Gump Now dropped to 20th!!!
lol, at least we have goal difference on our side. Well done Jaap I say..............................

Why can't we give him garden leave until the end of the season. Bring in Mick & Ady to give back some of the belief and passion. We may just escape with the massive backing from the fans this would give. Sure as eggs is eggs if we don't we are down

That’s not the worst idea, we currently have little hope of rescuing ourselves, they may just have the short term desired effect.

I believe the Taxi was sacked after that game. Our team was:

Nick Colgan,
Steve Swales, Gareth Davies, Linvoy Primus, Andy Legg;
Andy Bernal, Phil Parkinson, Micheal O'Neill, (yes the current NI Manager), James Lambert;
Stuart Lovell, Martin Williams.

There were a few decent players in there, (Lovell, Primus, Parki, Bernal etc), but still an atrocious "performance". So clear parallels with the current shower.
