You cannot jump when someone else is jumping and coming into your space, without raising your arms, otherwise you are going to get knocked flat on your back every time, probably banging your head in the process. Arms are the instinctive balancing element of the body when in the air. Jumping with arms in the air isn’t foul play, so what makes it foul play when the arm happens to get in the way of the ball when you had absolutely no chance of getting it out of the way. It’s just illogical.

Anyway, the Brazil v Costa Rica game adds to my feeling that refs are just going to start abdic8ing responsibility to VAR and just won't give decisions on field any more (unless against England of course)

If you're waving your arms in the air above your head you're not using them for balance to jump.

Yeah VAR seemed to work ok for the Iran goal

Though I have no idea what the point of a linesman is nowadays. Don't even bother flagging champ, VAR will decide....

Ultimately, it was the right decision. It’s just incredibly painful to watch players practically crying in celebration and then it all be for nothing. It’s also a little bit funny, but it won’t be when it’s England’s turn.

The linesman flagged pretty instantly for the Iran "goal" so not sure what difference VAR makes to that.
