For me Croatia have been one of the most impressive sides so far.

I actually think they are probably the most impressive (in a WC where no team has really wowed us). Not spectacular but go about their business solidly with quality players. Will be very hard to beat imo.

can you think of a midfield partnership that you would rather swap into their team in place of Modric & Rakitic? nope

Think France and Brazil have a few decent midfielders knocking about.

Best team I have seen so far.

Croatia (who I have backed btw) won all three games in the Group of Death, including beating Argentina 3-0.

It seems the most likely scenario.

Shame we've changed the team so much!

Sanguine It's the 'clear and obvious' bit that is causing some issues, isn't it?
In cricket, anything reviewed that is marginal goes with the umpire's original call. And that should have been the case with this one - yes he got the ball, yes it was from the side (ish), but if you slow it right down he contacts the leg before he does the ball. Even if you disagree on that last point, this was not a 'clear and obvious error' (i.e. there was definitely no foul), and the penalty should have stood.
Didn't the ref look at it again and change his own decision, from what people are saying?

If that's the case, then clearly the ref agreed he got it wrong, so it's not like it was unfairly overturning something ambiguous, it'd mean what he thought he saw wasn't actually what happened.

In which case it's nothing like cricket.

Best moment of the WC so far in the England Belgium game.

Michy Batshuayi. You absolute bellend! Picking up the ball after they’d scored then belting it as hard as he could into the back of the net from a foot out, missing the target, hitting the post instead and taking a whack in the face as it rebounded from about a yard away..... I cried, I have to say!

That joins into the list of biggest football bellylaughs, all in WCs., the others being Brazil letting in 5 goals in about 20 minutes in front of their own fans in 2014, and Scotland drawing with Iran in 1978.

I found the way the Brazillian team acted as if Neymar had died in the 2014 World Cup also made their defeat even funnier.

The point being that the VAR officials should only be referring it to the referee if they think there has been a clear and obvious error.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned at all last night, but for me there was a good shout for a VAR review following a foul of Loftus-Cheek when attacking a corner.

The defender was pulling his shirt, and enough to rip it, whilst Loftus-Cheek was heading at goal and it was enough to interfere with his attempt so, for me, although it would be a little soft it could really have been given.

Where are all the hooligans? Wasn't it all supposed to have kicked off by now?

Not heard so much as a plastic chair being thrown across a piazza, but maybe I've just missed it.
