Still not using VAR to check for keepers cheating at penalties I see. Or have they allowed them to move forward off the line before the ball has been kicked and I've missed it?

Great moment there. Defender and Schmeichel will both be national heroes if Denmark win this.

How can they check VAR for that when it isn't something that falls under the jurisdiction of VAR?

Good save from Schmeichel but why wasn't Danish player sent off?

I don't believe that was anything like a genuine attempt to play the ball

Bet he scores winning pen

Both keepers 2 yards off the line
No wonder they're saving them

Hope Pickford does that on Tuesday if it comes to it, does help.

Those were very English pens. Just hit it and hope the keeper goes a different way. Bottlejobs

Clear and obvious error by ref and assistant not noticing something that results in a goal. Something that it should be used for.

Clear and obvious errors in goal situations, fouls resulting penalties serious foul play, offsides and mistaken identity.

Guarantee that if he does the ref will order a retake!

How is it not a goal situation? Anyway without going round in circles about whether in the current VAR rules its included or not, isn't it the perfect example of where it should be used? Like offside its not about the ref's opinion its a clear yes or no answer as to whether the keeper moves forward early or not.

What could they realistically do though? Penalties were probably their only option with the squad they have. Spain should easily have beaten that Russian team but insisted on playing their dull brand of football rather than being direct and running at an aging and unfit Russian defence.

I was impressed that Schmeichel was so furious about the integrity of the shoot out when the taker did a stutter step, so furious that he had to get off his line super early to tell the ref all about it

A goal wasn't scored. All goals that are scored are checked on VAR regardless if they look fine to the naked eye or not. There is nothing in place for goalkeepers moving off the line to save a penalty. You'd think the officials would be able to see that themselves.

If you start allowing goalkeepers moving off the line into VAR then you may as well use it for everything. Throw ins, regulation fouls etc which is what FIFA wanted to avoid. I see what you're saying but the game can't be allowed to end up being fully reliant on technology or what would be the point in having a ref at all?
