Why didn't the Griezmann dive go to VAR?

It wasn't a clear and obvious error, despite Shearer's protestations, there was actually contact. It's then debatable as to whether it was enough to impede him, you'd see them given all over the park, but he did make the most of it and it was soft. Croatia unlucky, but ultimately, they've got to defend that free kick better.

As for the penalty, I don't have an issue with it being flagged for the ref to review by VAR, as there was contact with the hand and it looked like he missed that. The problem is he needed to be braver on viewing it, and look at it in full speed as well as slow mo. It's never a penalty for me, little time to see it, hand in a normal position - I think he's just bringing it down from jump leverage, and he clearly tries to clear with his leg... I don't think he knew anything about it.

Croatia started extremely well, but France are the better team IMO (Although a full strength Belgian side that shows up better than either IMO).

I don't think you can VAR as a clear and obvious error if there's contact, unless that contact is the player literally reaching out to tap as they go down.
