Season 2018-19 Prediction League

by Snowball » 28 Jul 2018 19:39

I'm happy to run this again, more or less as per last season, if Nobbers want me to.

I'll take it as a yes if we get a decent number signing up for Reading v Derby

Coupla things. In order to clarify how you post the teams (esp when Reading are away)
the only valid posting will be as the fixture list, or (do they still have them?) the football pools

So Reading away to (say) Stoke must always show Stoke first, Reading second

Stoke 2-0 Reading

Not (for example) "Reading 0-2" which could be read as Reading win 2-0 away
or Reading lose 2-0

BIG EDIT

The First Six Games

I know we often have "The Next Six Games" threads.

This is for those taking part in The RFC Predictions Threads

DERBY —————— Home
Forest ——————- Away
BIRMINGHAM ——— Home (Carabao Cup)
BOLTON —————- Home
Blackburn ————— Away
Villa ———————— Away

For me a lot depends on those first two games. Lose badly to Derby, we might get thrashed at Forest and morale/ confidence would obviously be lower and we could suffer.

But even if that were to happen, home to Birmingham is a great chance of a solid win, as is home to Bolton. Blackburn might be anything, but we have a reasonable chance of a point there. I can't see Villa being a force this season, so we could get a result there also.

IF (and it's a big if) we could WD our first two, I think we could W3 D1 of the next four. If we lose our first two I think we still ought to finish with W2 D2 L2 or W2 D1 L3

I'm going for:

3-2 WIN DERBY
1-0 LOSE Forest
3-0 WIN BIRMINGHAM
2-0 WIN BOLTON
1-1 DRAW Blackburn
1-2 WIN Villa

W4 D1 L1 11-5
W3 D1 L1 8-5 League

That feels WAY too optimistic!

For those in the prediction thread I'll score predictions as follows.

No separate scores for individual results. We already have that!

Exact total goals for = 10 points
Exact total goals against = 10 Points
Exact goal difference = 10 points
PERFECTION BONUS = 10 Points

BEST goals prediction (if not exact) = 5 Points
Next best goals prediction = 4 points
Third best goals prediction = 3 points

For simplicity I will treat the Carabao Cup games as a league game, and imagine 3 points for a win etc.

Best Points Prediction Scores 10, next 7, next 5. WORST (furthest from actual) scores -5

Rules as per last ten games last season

1 Point for correctly predicting first team to score.
You cannot use this as insurance.
For example Reading to win 2-0 but QPR to score first,

Bonus point for standard format exactly as the example below:

Reading 1-0 Derby HT
Reading 1-1 Derby FT

Reading to score first <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

McNulty 33
Derby 80

I ask for this because it saves time transcribing

Bonus points awarded for games of 3 or more goals where the goal sequence
is given correctly. You predict that spot on and get beaucoup extra points.

Anyone getting first Reading goal-scorer points, (must have the result right for that half)
to get 5 point bonus. Another 5 points if they are within one minute either way, for timing

All older rules apply

Points awarded for HT Correct Result (1), HT Correct Score (3) (I have upped 0-0 prediction to 3 its to save time)

Further explanation. You get

0 points for wrong,
or
1 point for correct result
or
3 points for a correct score

for the HT prediction AND FT prediction

3 Points added for first Reading Goal-Scorer if the score or result is also correct
for the first half if you predicted a first-half goal, for the whole game if you predicted
a second half goal.

( TO BE CLEAR, If you predict a first-half RFC scorer then your first half score/result
decides your Reading FGS bonus) even if things change radically second half

Example: You predict Kelly 25 and 1-0 HT, 2-1 FT. Kelly scores first half and Reading are 1-0 up at HT = you earn 3+3 points.
Second half we fall apart and lose 1-4, your HT score/scorer marks are still good.

The rules do not prevent you posting impossible predictions like RFC 1-0 HT, 0-3 FT

OWN GOALS

Last game we had an OG in Reading's favour (ie by a Cardiff player)

Such OG's DO COUNT as First RFC Scorer, as per most sane bookies

Remember -3 points is awarded for the worst prediction

In the event of me failing to post a separate prediction, I'll use this example

FT 1-1

Derby 71m , Barrow 81m

Just a thought how about bonus points for end of season finishing position or within three places ?

For what it's worth i think we'll finish 17th, though every chance it will be bottom three unless we sign some players, particularly a striker.

Wow, the first few posts are pessimistic!

One draw, five defeats and a total GD of 2-18

Personally, I can't see this side capitulating to big scores often

Sure, but I think predictions before a game is played and total punts.
Maybe add this after 6 games? 10?

I suggest we could also have 6-game predictions (just points and GD)

Nearest gets 6 points, next gets 3, next 1. Worse gets -5?
Ditto for GD (given as 8F 6A)?
