brian certainly did nothing to address the issue, and indeed by getting shot of those two players he actively made it worse.

Pat Butchers Ring Isn't Howe focused on developments?
He's still got links to the club and the league, I'm sure he would be interested in a return if he was given authority to run it the way he saw best, hiring and firing those around him and was well compensated.

In fact, he may be able to do more than one job at once if he hires the right number 2 to do the additional stuff around player contracts and such that he took on when Hammond left, plus in his time as CEO before he was involved in Royal Elm Park and the New training ground, so it probably won't be a stretch for him to take on the new CEO role with the training ground almost done and also remain involved in Royal Elm Park. The only issue would be a possible conflict of interests between REP and Reading FC in which he may have to take a step back from e.g. if the plans change and they're not in the interest of the club, he's probably not the right person to raise an objection

I don't see the need for Howe to be anyone's "mentor"

He was the right man for the job throughout our most successful era and is surely a safe pair of hands in which to entrust the club in the owners absence who, so far, have precious little to show for their large and on going investment in RFC.

Howe knows the club inside out. Training a successor is secondary if not largely immaterial should he be up for the job for the foreseeable future.

Gourlay was a disaster. Time to return to basics.

You can't hire a new person and immediately ask them to train a successor, by all means suggest that could they hire a number 2 who can take on elements of their role and cover in times of absence though because you don't want the new CEO to burnout/get bogged down.

Since Leigertwood left at the end of 2014 season we've not had a defensive midfielder that can influence a game in any meaningful way. That is definitely the fault of the DoF and managers.

I wouldn't expect NH1 to want the role as a) he lacks experience and b) it'd take him more away from the football side of things which I think is what he enjoys.

Much better to reappoint NH2 if he's interested.

Surely Howe is NH1 given he was here first?

Out of the CEO role, but maybe holding out for DoF if we sack the person we only just appointed (unlikely)
