NewCorkSeth Oh and also the sky commentators may as well have been Leeds players. They praised every tiny thing they did. At one point Rinomhota made a fantastic charging run forward and all the said was "and reading bring the ball forward"... They probably added "I wonder how Leeds will score from this" but I blocked them out.

Very blinkered Royals' fan view. They actually praised our players on numerous occasions. They were, however, OTT on their worship of Douglas. MOM? Don't think so, particularly if his keeper hadn't saved him. Last night was more Douglas Sports that Leeds or Sky Sports.

I take it this is the same Douglas that should have been booked twice and therefore sent off?

Unfortunately it wasn't a one-off and I'll just say about Gunter:-
For a player with trillions of record-breaking international caps how come:-

He doesn't he know how to take a throw-in? (penalised for a foul throw)
Why does he always throw himself to the floor to try and get a free-kick (found out last night and embarrassingly penalised for hand-ball)?
WTF was he doing punching the ball away when still in play (not seen by the officials)?
He is just a sick joke of a player who is poor positionally, even when playing on the right, and is just feeble-not the sort you want with you in a relegation dog-fight.

Of course, those sort of things aren't seen from numerous other players in leagues all around the world at all levels from grass roots right up to the highest!

Over many years of watching football I have seen quite a few players handle the ball when it wasn't completely over the line (the tv angle can't possibly be conclusive in that regard, so maybe the assistant ref didn't miss it/get it wrong) in their eagerness to get it back into play or waste time, depending on the game situation at that point.

Sky commentator also commented on the number of players who do go to ground too easily when challenged in a tight situation and later on in the game a Leeds player did exactly the same but in front of Jasper rather than his assistant so got away with it.

Your conclusion is that this is fine then, all in the same match from an experienced International footballer?
I don't want him playing for us anymore and the sooner Newport or Wrexham come in for him the better.
He worsens our team rather than improves it and I don't want him to become the only player in the club's history to help gets us relegated in his time down from Premier League to Div 1.
Get rid.

Wrong. My conclusion is that there are some on here, many of whom I suspect are serial under-achievers, who are utterly blinkered and prejudiced in their criticism of certain players. In the case of Gunter he appears to be the root cause of everything that is wrong with our club - I guess he must have advised on choice of owners and selected our managers.

And guess what, there will have been other players who have managed to do all that in one game.

The reality is that the idiotic Gunter (substitute Aluko and others here) haters are so focused on spotting errors from their particular scapegoat that they notice very little else that happens in a game.

Rhino 7: MOM. When I've seen him previously he looked overwhelmed. But last night showed lots of spirit, commitment and energy. Until Ezad returns should play in front of the back four. Some tremendous runs with the ball-may not however have great passing ability-lets see

he and Ezad should both be in the midfield imo.
to shield our shonky defence and allow the wingers/attackers freedom to do their thing

Mike Dean had a good game I thought, was an enjoyable game to watch!
Positives : Overall team effort. Hard work in the midfield from Bacuna, Rino and Kelly. Solid from Anssi, Moore and Yiadom. Loader looks promising.
Negatives: Swift has seemed to lost his creative passion and care atm, Illori looked a little suspect, Gunter is taking the mick

Bring on Stoke! Big game that!

There is something seriously wrong with the attitude of our players but hopefully with the two new lads promoted from the U23s who seem to have a good attitude and maybe a few additions in the transfer window we will survive at this level this season.
Gunter IMHO is one of the root causes of our demise and I would like to see him go.

By the way, somebody pointing out the inadequecy of a player is not an idiot nor an "under-achiever", he or she is saying what they see and what we see is certain players (currently Aluko and Gunter)who are just not good enough despite many international caps and a large unwarranted transfer fee.
That is not "hating" and is quite acceptable on a forum such as this-it is the job of the coaching staff to get the best out of the players not ours.

BTW haven't you noticed that we are a point above the relegation spot so clearly all is not well?.

Sorry to jump in the argument but your point about certain players (currently Aluko and Gunter) is completely incorrect. Are you talking about the same two players that have made 3 starts between them in 7 games?

People do judge players off how much they like them. I guarantee if Yiadom and Gunter played the exact same game, they'd be rated differently because people only see what they want to see. I'm not a fan of Gunter and would love for him to leave but blaming him for last night is idiocy as he played quite well, with a couple of teasing crosses in the box

And what are the alternatives? Obita is injured, Richards is injured (but also no where near ready yet and playing him now will only dampen his confidence) and Blackett (who isn't really good enough either). Let's be honest, this whole team is not good enough and now it's time to rely on effort rather than quality. Say what you want about Gunter, he puts in the effort and I'd rather someone like him than half-arsed Swift

I suspect had that handball (punch) been seen and a penalty given to make it 2-0 , Gunter might as well have cleared his locker.

And in the first 5 games, when Gunter was injured and not playing, we got 2 points from 15.

At this rate, after he leaves, you'll be blaming results for the next 10 years on his residual influence.

Get a grip.

No single player, no matter how much you might dislike him, is going to be a "root cause" of an entire team's results.
He didn't stop a moderate Wales team punching seriously above their weight in Euro 16.
He didn't stop Reading getting to within a penalty shootout of the Premier League.
He didn't stop Reading getting to only their second ever FA Cup semi-final.

He is not the bringer of the Apocalypse.

You're just making yourself look pathetic.

At last. Some common sense. Gunts time with us is coming to an end but Victor is totally obsessed with him and likes to attribute blame to him at all times. Even when Gunter isn’t in the side and we lose you can bet Victor will find a way of mentioning Gunter in a critical light when passing comment on the game. With or without Gunter in the team our results barely vary which suggests Victor is OTT in his constant and verbose criticism of the player.

I will openly admit I'm biased against Gunts. I just don't like the way he plays the game. And URZZZZ is totally right, I'm keyed in to notice his errors and what I don't like.

But since I saw him on the way to London the other week, he's more of a real person to me, so I'm making an effort to be less shitty in case he does read HNA and because I feel bad. I've always tried to be relatively objective, but it's hard when someone's whole approach frustrates you.

Perfectly adequate back up full back.

Personally thought both Gunter & Yiadom were poor last night. But we were set up very narrow so they were always going to be exploited.

Was impressed by Loader but either him or Meite really needed to run behind their defence rather than coming short (a trait of the modern striker I absolutely detest).

Bacuna & Rinomhota brilliant - could we look to play them in a 2-man midfield? Then we could get Ineffective Kelly & Ineffective Swift out of the team

Frustrating thing about Gunter against Leeds,, with all his experience he should of told Swift to help him out. Last season he should have been doing this to Aluko. Seems like he is not one for telling people what to do or shouting at team mates for stitching him up.

Why would you give a single toss about what someone who is on 15k a week reads on a fan forurm? If he doesn't like to be criticised then he shouldn't be playing professional sport, it comes with the territory. You shouldn't be made to feel bad because Chris Gunter is overly sensitive and quite frankly wet. He is a bang average player who should be a great player and the reason he isn't a great player is because he is complacent and idle. He is happy earning decent money and playing Championship football, he accepts failure and gets over it quickly rather than working to get better and improve. The good and great players work so hard to stay or get to the level they are at, Chris Gunter just doesn't have that in him. Finally if he is that hyper sensitive then he shouldn't read about himself on Twitter or visit fan forums? What is he realisitically expecting to see? We aren't all Welsh and we aren't going to blow smoke up his arse on a daily basis.

He needs to leave the club for his own benefit, his time here is over.

I reckon he's likely to leave on the summer. As Ian said he's as good a back up RB you could ask for in the Championship but I would hope Watson comes back into the fold next season.

That is very harsh and I have it on very good authority that he is extremely upset with some of the things he has read on here from you specifically (I think we know what you are alluding to here). The constant bashing of him is effecting his confidence, like it did Andy Hughes when he was on here.
