Maneki Neko
NewCorkSeth Loan or transfer?

I presume the full team we are looking at right now is:
Jaakkola, Walker
Yiadom, Gunter, Obita, Richards
Moore, Ilori, Blackett, O'Shea
Bacuna, Swift, Kelly, Rinomhota, Aluko, Ezatolahi, Ejaria
McCleary, Barrow, Harriott
Bodvarson, Meite, Baldock

*Edit* forgot Loader... what position are we calling him these days?

Bringing in a new striker will displace one of Meite or Bodvarson who I don't think anyone can fault for effort so I'm not sure I'd be up for it unless it's someone of true quality.

Wings seem to be our weakest area (despite our defense being shocking I can't see anything realistically being done there - who are we going to get that can fix the problems there? Yiadom, Moore and Ilori should all thrive at this level)

I'm not after effort per se. I want goals.
I'm happy enough with bodvarsson and meite being in the mix, but neither is good enough, together or on their own (maybe bod, but given fitness concerns...) to be first choice.

the defence IS terrible, they SHOULD all thrive.
I'm not sure who we could get, but I do think its possible to improve on what we have, in terms of individual quality and/or partnership quality.

we keep the ball ok and create chances(or at least get in good positions), but cant finish them.
our defence makes too many mistakes and concedes too many goals.
hence why I think striker and defence should be priorities.

I mean the wingers and midfielders are all shite too, but ive got to prioritise here!

we really are in a pickle

Yeah.. can't fault the logic I guess. Just feel that the defense is in a circle where every mistake they make affects their confidence which in turn makes them make more mistakes and so on. And so on. And so on.
Can't see us signing someone of equal quality to Moore and we already tried an experienced addition in O'Shea to try sort their heads out. Maybe signing someone who will start immediately will give them a kick up the backside but equally I could see that setting back the likes of Osho, McIntyre and Holmes. In the end I suspect that's a sacrifice worth making if it keeps us up.

The team makes too many mistakes. Defending starts from the front.

New signings aren't that important IMO.

Getting current players fit and / or offloading them is.

And I'd be more interested in quality and mentality for new signings than where they play. Pretty much anyone decent with a good positive attitude and confident game will improve on absolutely everyone except Rinomhota.

CB and LB seem weak. As does ACM, LW, RW and ST, but we really need to lose one to gain one for all those positions. I'm not convinced by RB, CM or GK either.

If Ovie Ejaria is an upgrade on anyone in the current squad and enables us to change the style of play. Then it'll be a good loan signing.

Watching his post signing interview on Youtube.

He erm... seems a little on the ... er... simple side. Might just be the facile questions though.

He really looks like he could do with bulking out a bit.

It’s rare you hear a footballer speak and wonder if they’ve ever considered going on Mastermind. Their brains are in their feet !

I watch a lot of Rangers games, and the lad (probably) has a lot of talent, but can’t take the physical stuff and goes missing too much, when if you judged everyone on the pitch on pure ability, he’s right up there with the best in virtually every SPL game, yet the game passes him by too much. I hope I’m wrong, but I can’t see him being what we need in our current predicament.

Judging by that description he’s a back up for Swift.

Which is odd seeing as Gomes has welcomed back Aluko there and also played Loader in the same position.

I didn't get to see the United game so I have a question. Was Aluko actually good there or just less shite than usual?

Agreed. Some footballers are very articulate, some not so much. Many of them will have disrupted and patchy schooling, but that doesn't make them thick. And of course many are multilingual

In any case, it's a poor comparison. You need to have a good memory for Mastermind, this is not the same thing as intelligence

Yes, sadly the brains of the Reading players are in their heads.

Ok. Fab through ball for Harriott who was offside.

I'm unconvinced but Brandy is right, he looks a different player at 10.

What does Monica think though?

I agree, been pleasantly surprised with Aluko in the last two games.

I look forward to seeing both him and Swift this weekend. Not holding my breath with either tbh.
