Totally echo VM's thoughts on middling teams not taking the Cup seriously. It just seems daft and it used to annoy the hell out of me when Coppell did the same.

Yep bugs the hell out of me.

By the time the FA Cup starts a club like Leicester or Bournemouth know if they are likely to be in relegation trouble or not. The will also only be playing once a week most weeks as they won't have Europe to juggle and are also likely to be out of the League Cup. If they can't put full strength (or close to full strength) in an effort to win an actual trophy than what is the point. Is prioritising finishing 8th over 10th really worth giving up a shot at a trophy.

Yes. It's a joke to think players can't play the games because they 'need a rest'. I bet if they were playing Saturday/Tuesday in the Prem/Champs League they would hardly be complaining!

I don't think the argument is as much about giving regular players a rest (although coming so soon after the Xmas period might be a factor) but more about giving fringe players some playing time.

Certainly that was always how Coppell described it.

Another win and another clean sheet-the grinding out of results continues.
The next 4 fixtures for Liverpool, City and Spurs are very winnable(including Spurs v Man Utd today) so I can see these three stretching away from the others and making it a very interesting rest of season.

I think Liverpool have an outstanding chance this time as long as the 3 injured centre-backs recover sooner rather than later especially as they have played all the top sides away already.

De Ga v Spurs-top performance and if Man Utd keep on winning they may end up with a Europa League spot yet.

Yeah, Liverpool need to keep winning. This run of fixtures came at the right time for City - Rotherham, Burton, Wolves, Huddersfield, Burton, Burnley, Newcastle.

At home. And yes, Arsenal follows Newcastle. They've played all their big away games, with the exception of a trip to Old Trafford, coincidentally the same as Liverpool. United could have a say in this race yet.....

True, but to misquote Gary Neville :
"Choosing between Liverpool and Man City is like your ex-wife (and love of your life) sleeping with either your brother or your best friend."

Squeaky bums already at Anfield, albeit the sum total of their two 1-1 draws in the last week is that City are a single point closer, so it's not the end of the world.

Everything gets out of line for a couple of weeks on Wednesday - City go to Everton for a game rearranged around the Carabao Cup Final, and Liverpool don't catch up their game in hand until 24th Feb.

On a slight sideline I heard a rumour that if Everton suffer a heavy defeat Marco Silva is gone. All that tapping up was well worth it eh! Can't see anything other than a City victory.

Pretty poor officiating in the game last night.

Mane's goal was offside (the lino is so far out of position is laughable) and Origi's chance in the last second was also offside.

Great goal from Antonio mind, love seeing a training ground move like that pay off.

The "joke" doing the rounds is that he is one defeat away from the sack, a loss for Manchester City on Wednesday should do for him.

Good to see that Liverpool/Klopp aren't in the meltdown that The Press have been on about all week.
Stiil only lost one league game all season compared to City's 4 so not too shabby a season so far.

It's going to be a close-run thing. As it stands, Liverpool might have to go near perfect to the end of the season, as I don't see where City drop points right now, even at Old Trafford. CL might influence it - in that you'd expect City to progress, but I can see Liverpool struggling against Bayern, particularly without the suspended Van Dijk for the first leg.

Whore Jackie
From Despair To Where? He does come across as a David Batty/Paul Scholes type player, level headed, quietly and efficiently gets on with the job and not even he slightest bit up his own arse.

Interesting battle of wits against Bayern who came here to get a 0-0 and got one.

Liverpool players seemed determined to get in Salah's way all evening which didn't help matters for them.
