Even though numerous good managers, coaches and pundits subscribe to that view and evidence generally tends to support it. I seem to remember that even some of our past managers who weren't renowned for a possession style acknowledged it.

Pretty sure that McDermott said something along the lines of 'We need to remember that if we give the ball away teams at this level will punish you'. Ergo you need to keep the ball.
