BFTG - Boro (A)

by CountryRoyal » 27 Apr 2019 21:07

Haven’t started one of these for a while. Not much point in going into too much. Was overall a fairly poor display certainly in an attacking sense, we have a great habbit of turning really promising situations into absolutely nothing. The passed it McCleary particularly at fault. Baldock isn’t a footballer and hopefully one to go over the summer. Gunter was shockingly bad, he might has well have not been there. Time and time again was absolutely no where near his man and they then targeted him and had a lot of joy down that side. Everyone was just a bit quiet though. MOTM - Loaded for for getting off the mark with an absolute peach of a goal. Well done.

Disappointed we didn’t take more, I know it’s far away but it’s last away of the season on a Saturday and we’ve been playing some decent stuff. I liked the renditions of “we want you to stay” to every loanee followed be “sone aluko, we want you to go”. Am also exceedingly grateful there was no pitch invasion at the end was about to cringe. Anyway, who cares we’re safe and we go again next season. Thank you Jose and the team.

From the stream it looked like we were lucky to go in only one down, Boro had a couple of decent chances just after the break, from then on we bossed it. just didn`t run for us in the final third. They are renown for having a strong defence and good keeper at home, we saw why today.

That look Baldock gave Gomes when he was substituted said it all......he is definitely on his way out.

That’s some effort and expense on your part. At least you saw Loader’s first goal in the EFL.

Not much to say really, an early goal scored, yet again we drop points from a winning position. They attacked us all of the first half from their right hand side and we did nothing to combat it

Martinez 7 - some decent saves

Yiadom 5 - looked a threat going forward but partially at fault for both goals - although not sure it was a penalty
Miazga 6 - generally dealt with the crosses well, not as composed as usual
Moore 6 - same as Miazga
Gunter 4 - pitifully poor, stood off his man time and time again and some of his crosses into the box were shocking

Baker 7 - did well
Rino 6 - not on the top of his game but stood up to the challenge well

McCleary 4 - he's past it, just not quick enough anymore
Loader 7 - nice finish for the goal and looked as much as a Championship player as anyone out there
Ejaria 4 - only loanee who doesn't impress, he has his moments but doesn't contribute to goals or assists and loses the ball consistently

Baldock 6 - thought the OP was harsh, thought he did OK, especially considering it was his first game for 4 months

Harriott 4 - just not Champ standard
Barrett 5 - OK
Olise 5 - OK

Boro - naturally they did their job and won, and I'm not bitter in defeat but deary me, their style is atrocious to watch, pump it up to the 5 ft something striker and play 10 behind the ball in their own box with 55 played. They got into some decent positions first half, but they seemed to just stop playing in the second half

Ejaria has scored 1 and has 2 assists for us in 15 games. He's done OK for us but not as great as the others.

Safe. Baldock being slated is ridiculous given it was his first game for 4 months. About as injury riddled a side as we’ve had yet the overall performance wasn’t so bad given that and the fact that really there was nothing to play for.

Brum at home next so something to finally look forward to and then that’s it. Hoping the summer sees more movement of players out enabling the club to wheel, deal and be creative with budget in a really positive way. Perhaps even the next Doyle and Long for £80k?

Norwich have a squad without a single player costing more than £1.5m , even Pukki was free, it can be done on a budget, but after 2 nightmare seasons I will take a mid table finish, that will be progress.

I wonder if it has actually saved us from relegation, if so a woodwork party might be apt at the Birmingham game in celebration.

There were quite a few shown on the RFC website Picture Gallery. According to Tim Dellor a sea-horse was on the pitch. But it was probably the T-Rex that Matt Miazga killed off by stamping on it.
