18/19 End of Season Awards

by URZZZZ » 10 May 2019 02:48

We often talk about POTS, but there are also other awards that could be mentioned

Player of the Season
Signing of the Season (pretty obvious)
Young Player of the Season
Most Improved Player
Goal of the Season

Best Moment of the Season
Biggest Disappointment of the season
Most Disappointing signing
Lowest Point of the season

I'd personally go for

Rino
Yiadom
Rino
Blackett
Ejaria against Rotherham (not necessarily the best finish but the move)
Bristol (H)
Meite's winner against Wigan
Meyler
Meyler
Derby (H) hurt but Bolton (H) took the biscuit, gutless performance

Best Moment of the Season - last minute equaliser in the game above

Not going to lie, I didn't factor in the January loan signings for signing of the season. Would still say though that Yiadom earns it, especially considering he was on a free

Was tempted to go Meite as most improved but considering how inconsistent Blackett has been the last two seasons, it's great to see him finally deliver on a weekly basis

I'm personally not sure Blackett is much different to how he has always been. He still mixes moments of quality with the quite regular lack of concentration. I think people were overly harsh on him last year, but he was generally pretty good the season before

I think his problem was he's very much a confident player who needs games in a row (arguably like Meite). In the first season, he pretty much played every game and generally did OK with a few stinkers

Fast forward to the second season, and Stam completely shafted him, like he did with a number of players last season. I remember thinking Blackett started the 17/18 season very well but there was this one game (I think Hull at home) where he was absolutely abysmal and the fans were giving him a lot of stick. Stam then dropped him after that and would bring him in once every five games (not useful at all)

This season, he's been like he was in the first season with an upgrade. He still jogs casually back at times, he's still prone to concentration issues (like Bristol away) but on the whole he's cut out his stinkers and generally been a good option at LB

Player of the Season Martinez
Signing of the Season Gomes. (I think he could be the real deal given time and a bit of money)
Young Player of the Season Rino
Most Improved Gunter at the end
Goal of the Season Meite Bristol.
Game of the Season Norwich Away.
Best Moment of the Season Clement getting sacked.
Biggest Disappointment of the season Clement and Gourley being in charge from day 1 of the season.
Most Disappointing signing 90% of them.
Lowest Point of the season Derby at Home and realizing with the lack of advertising round the ground and clueless Clement in charge things were gonna go from bad to worse. Then there was that knob Gourley thrown into the equation.

oxf*rd hell. You lot don't half overrate Rino - he's had about 6 good games. I'm calling it now - biggest disappointment of 19/20.

Ascotexgunner Most Disappointing signing 90% of them.

I mean I'm not to say whether an opinion is correct or not but I'm genuinely interested to work out who the 90% was

We signed the following:

Walker
Yiadom
O'Shea
Eza
Meyler
Sims
Baldock
McNulty
Ejaria
Baker
Oliveira
Miazga
Martinez

I'm not sure who the 90% is in that list personally...

It was quality over quantity regarding goals scored last season. Some of our best goals are mentioned on this thread. Kelly, Swift and Bacuna also scored belters too.
