Any news on when our Liam Kelly is on the move? Was hoping he’d be the next out the door

Not sure but it does seem that he's been cut adrift a bit from the rest of the squid.

Unless we can find more midfielders, we could learn to regret that with a current first team midfield selection of:

Rinomhota, Swift, Kelly, East, and Meyler.

One is terrible, one is really only an attacking midfielder and one has just 1 senior appearance. The others are the excellent Rinomhota and Kelly himself. It's pretty low on reliable quality.

Liam is one of the players told he can leave and not to report back for training, and then told to in fact return for training as there are no tales thus far.

Perhaps some of the players will have had a change of attitude. Easier to find a new team if you are in the shop window.

Total assumption.

Bye, Liam Kelly

Sorry to see him go and hope it works out in R'dam.

Obvs the last year or so has been a pain on and off the pitch but earlier on there was a footballer in there worth watching - as opposed identikit midfielders like Meyler, Edwards, Evans. Kelly had some bravado and brains, could see and strike a pass and had a decent shot / free kick / pen on him.

His situation (and size of course) reminds me of James Lambert - another whose talent never turned into a real career with Reading. It's not particularly the club's fault, it's the way the modern game is. Luka Modric shows it can be done by a titch but there aren't many of him about. In our league - Luke Freeman? David Brooks?

Kelly has scored some crackers for us. When he gets it right he can strike the ball beautifully. This is a great move for him. I hope he does well.

Cracking move for the lad all things considered... I can't say I'll miss him.

I really liked him when he first came on the scene

For me since then he seems to represent the decline in the club since the PO season. From the outside a dodgy attitude seems to have resulted in a regression to a player not up to the champ

The move is undoubtedly best for all parties. He was no use to us in his current form and with Gomes not rating him. Big wage off the books and a chance for him to go back and find what made him a quality player in the first place. Hope it works out

Sad to see another youth player go. On his day (which were few and far between) he was up there with the best of the creative midfielders we have had.

May he have the best of luck

You can chart the decline of his Reading career from the exact moment Jaap Stam publically compared him to Iniesta

Hopefully there is a large sell on clause in the deal as I suspect there is a sizeable profit to be made on him in a couple of years time.
Wishing him all the best and will get mates in the NL to keep an eye on his progress.

Did we really get £800,000? That's brilliant. If there's also a half decent sell on clause, just in case does actually make it, that's a great bit of business. Howe is truly back.

V good player on his day but his consistency was lacking and some of his performances (Clement era especially) left a lot to be desired

Still maintain he’ll be a top player somewhere along the line, sadly that won’t be with us but will be interested to hear how he develops over in the Netherlands because I think that will suit his style

I have often thought that Kelly might do well in European football rather than the cut and thrust of the Championship. This move could be the making of him. I for one wish him well and hope we have a big sell on clause just in case!!

Just for interest where did the 800K figure come from I thought it was 500K.

Courtney Friday who first broke this transfer says it’s a zero transfer fee but with add ins will reach £500,000.
