Snowflake Royal

Novakovich
Similar to Rino, he poses the opportunity to keep reengaging the fan base as an academy product. Not going to be a top earner and his value is likely to increase after a season with us in the championship.

...

Loader is an odd one. Have a good season and his value rockets. Have a disappointing one and it probably plummets. I'd sell, but not cheap and not if we can cash in big elsewhere on Barrow, Swift or Bod.

Isn't Nova now in the final year of his contract (along with Loader and Olise)? If so there needs to be some serious thinking in the benefits of selling now vs year of experience but presumably a tribunal set compensation next year. Makes it hard to believe any of those three would be in this mythical 5.

URZZZZ There’s a part of me who thinks we’ll be OK with the promising youngsters coming through. But at the same time, we’re not following too much of a dissimilar path to Ipswich 12 months ago (sell off first teamers, looking at young loans, using academy kids). Interested to see how it will pan out

Looking at the squad we apparently currently have, (assuming the 7 ostracised 1st teamers all find clubs), it will pan out exactly the same way as it did for Ipswich last season - relegation.
.

It’s certainly a possibility. We definitely need some new signings, it’s very much a case of how good they are

If only someone said that a few posts ago

Not starting the argument again but will be sad to see him go. Norwood MKII i think. Luton and Feyenoord two teams interested

I wish him well. Presumably he will be moving to a League One side and can hold down a regular place. It’s right that he moves on.

Where to?

Decent enough, just not up to the required standard.....like that hasn’t already been said before by our wizened ones.

Wow. Well good luck to him. It’s a good move to either of those clubs. Thought he might have to step down a division.

Obviously there’s the Stam Feyenoord link

Luton, not sure but apparently they have a track record of buying players out of favour and transforming them. Linking up with his old teammate Stacey (assuming they played together) as well may be a catch

Stacey and Kelly played together for over ten years so safe to say they might be quite close.

Hope we get good money for him - he's one of the only Championship quality midfielders we have and we can't afford to lose him without a replacement.

It’s definitely the best for all parties imo. Kelly needs to get back to where he was in Stam’s first year as he has gone very stale here

Hopefully it opens the door now to bring in an upgrade - be it Ejaria or someone else

I disagree. He is a very good player who has had a massive knock in confidence.

Ejaria wouldn’t be an upgrade on Kelly because they play in different positions. One is a deep lying midfielder who plays in the midfield two, the other ambles around in random positions, not really doing much but is meant to be part of the “3” behind the striker. East, for example would be an upgrade on Kelly in the context you’re talking about because they play in the same position. Ejaria and Kelly don’t

To me this has all the hallmarks of 71/72 when we had to make do with kids. Who would have though Stam and Gourlay would STILL be negatively impacting our club. Kids in a sweetshop back in 16/17, spending, net after transfer income, more money than all previous RFC managers put together.

I'd love to see your working for that outlandish claim.

We can easily agree longer contracts BT.

For the hatrick

It'll be sad to see a very promising home grown young player unfairly out of favour in a position we're desperately short go. But if we can get some decent money then needs must with our wage bill. And if he's out of favour then best for him. Only question mark about him was his attitude.

Agree on the idea of Ejaria being a replacement being bonkers.

I didn’t say Ejaria was a direct replacement for him. I just said Kelly going would allow us to bring in a better player

(Reading back aware it could be read like that though). Agree they are totally different players

It all helps of course but can’t see Kelly going saving too much salary wise and can’t see it being a particularly large fee either.

Wonder if he might leave on a season loan deal instead.

Out of contract end of year so season long loan and he’ll be finished with us

Just to back to the above - my main issue with Kelly for a while is I don’t know what he is - attacking mid? no. Defensive mid? No. Playmaker? No. Ballwinner? No. Creative mid? No. Lampard style goalscorer? No.

I don’t know what a direct replacement for him would be because I don’t know what he actually does, other than everything averagely

Didn't he get a new deal when we finished 3rd and Stam said he was one of the best passers in the world.... around the time Gourlay came in?

Hound fair enough. I do worry we're targeting the wrong slots. Rino needs a partner and if Kelly goes it's gambling on East or playing Swift, Olise or (should he come Ejaria) out of position with no real back up until we sign someone else.

How many players did we use in CM last year?
Meyler
Bacuna
Kelly
Swift
Rinomhota
Ejaria
East
O'Shea...
