In fairness given I can't stand him, limited player who worked his way to the top, showed determination to stay there, longevity in career, experienced triumph and failure, worked for one of the best and has apparently already refused management offers to learn the coaching trade better.
Players who had to work for it tend to make better managers than those who were just incredibly talented. And he's not just had an easy life - in football terms. I expect you learn a lot of how not to do things fighting relegation with Sunderland for four years and then being signed by Gourlay for a Reading relegation fight.
I'd rather he oxf*rd off somewhere else, but fine.

Got the relevant qualifications already so not looking for a 'free ride', almost universally spoken off as a good guy to have around.
Why anyone would not be able to stand a bloke who doesn't seem to have done an awful lot wrong I'm not sure. I've never met him but there seems very little negative stuff attached to him. There were some very big issues around Stam but O'Shea seems to have been a model pro.
He seems to have the right credentials but whether he puts them into practice is another question. You also hope he has come in with Jose's blessing rather than been imposed.

Agreed. Surely his wealth of experience will make him an excellent coach for our young defenders to learn from.

Exactly what people said about signing him as a player last season. We conceded more shots than any other team, and lots of goals.
