Sheff Utd might be better off spending their £20 million on somebody who might have some resale value - in a year's time, no matter what happens, somebody will remember that McBurnie looked good in the Championship.

For Brighton, Fulham and Huddersfield, for example, the £15 million+ players they bought from European leagues last year were all pretty poor with wages that could use up all their parachute payments.

Baffling isn't it? I'd get it if they spent that on 3 very high level, experienced players who could improve and nurture their young talent but to bring in 14 new players, the majority of which haven't played in England before, is going to be a huge error.

Baffling isn't it? I'd get it if they spent that on 3 very high level, experienced players who could improve and nurture their young talent but to bring in 14 new players, the majority of which haven't played in England before, is going to be a huge error.

They may have brought in 14 players but they really had to replace 15 who either left due to end of loan deal or end of contract. Unlike Fulham they have clearly planned their recruitment and got most of it done in good time to help with squad cohesion. Fulham on the other hand bought half a team on transfer deadline day.

This is a very different situation, not an ideal one, and it may well backfire but this mass recruitment is a needs must more than anything else.

It's a lot of money, but I think they've done okay. Heaton, Mings and Targett are all solid purchases for the bottom half of the Premier League, and Hause and El Ghazi just make loan deals permanent. Trezeguet just had a very good ACON too. Konsa from Brentford looks riskier, but £12m for an England U21 defender isn't bad business at all. Wesley will be fun - he's a livewire who writes messages on his hands to remind himself during games not to get too wound up.
