Happy enough with that. Utd have paid over the odds for him but that sorts the defence out

back five of de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw is fooking solid as fook!

The fee - any transfer fee is fairly meaningless.

Maguire is not worth 80m to Leicester but Utd have decided he is the only CB that will meet their needs. As Leicester do not need to (or especially) want to sell - it is a figure that Utd can comfortable afford and one that allows Leicester to recruit a replacement and strengthen elsewhere.

It is United's desire to sign him and only him that has driven the price here - so it is not a sign that football has gone mad more so Utd - they could have found an equally talented CB for a fraction of the price but they have decided they only want to buy British - so they are going to have to pay through the nose as other PL clubs simply don't need to sell any more, unless they want to.

If we want to see evidence that the game's gone (as the talksport cliche machine would say) then we only need to look at the fee Villa paid for Mings (NB I know this is probably old news, I don't really follow other team's transfers) £26.5 million!!!!!

I very nearly included that as an example of where the fee is higher than it should have been as Villa really wanted to buy him and Bournemouth simply didn't need to sell - Villa were the only club on the planet who would have paid that fee for him.

Can understand why Villa wanted him but fair play to Bournemouth they managed to get rid of a reserve defender and improve their full back positions with the proceeds.

LOLWUT
We are not racist and for us the absence of black players is just an important tradition, emphasising the identity of the club and nothing more

Mourinho called it when the Neymar transfer happened. While he was a world class player, he said smashing the £100m barrier would lead to mediocre players being sold for stupid money, and that is exactly what's happened.

It's interesting that FFP seems to have finally brought sense and sobriety to EFL; teams are only spending big if they sell first. If Olise has 2 excellent years and we sell him for £20m or so, we could be in an excellent position compared to competitors.

Who exactly could they buy that's prem proven, is commanding in the air, is one of the best CB's in the league (has better numbers than VVD*), is at the prime age (i.e. not potential, or near retirement) and wants to come to United a team that's not in the CL

*obvs is obvs

As a quick example, they could have got have got Toby Alderweireld for £25m.

But as Utd had the very specific criteria you mentioned and made that pretty clear, that is why they had to pay through the nose for Maguire.

the bloke 5 years older than Maguire near retirement with one year left on his contract...why would he want to leave Spurs for United in that situation. Leave next year on a free and pick up a huge signing on bonus as well

You haven't thought it through

Give me another

Well, there was also headbutting someone in a pre season friendly, getting sent off on his home debut (tbf, an outrageous dive by Drogba) and his Turf Moor meltdown.

Fcuking loved him though.
