Who exactly could they buy that's prem proven, is commanding in the air, is one of the best CB's in the league (has better numbers than VVD*), is at the prime age (i.e. not potential, or near retirement) and wants to come to United a team that's not in the CL

As a quick example, they could have got have got Toby Alderweireld for £25m.

But as Utd had the very specific criteria you mentioned and made that pretty clear, that is why they had to pay through the nose for Maguire.

the bloke 5 years older than Maguire near retirement with one year left on his contract...why would he want to leave Spurs for United in that situation. Leave next year on a free and pick up a huge signing on bonus as well

You are kinda making my point for me - Man Utd had a very set list of criteria that they wanted to purchase in a CB - those essentially being British (preferably), young(ish), Prem Proven etc - that lead them to a very small number of possible candidates if you are only looking in the PL pool - due to them deciding they didn't want to look elsewhere they had to buy from another club that didn't need to sell and could hold out for a frankly ridiculous amount of money. The cost of Maguire is simply down to Utd wanting him and pretty much him alone.

As with the Mings transfer, Maguire went for a fee that only one club would have been willing to pay.

Apparently 50% of his wages are designated for FFP.

Looks like Derby have got an enhanced sponsorship deal from 32Red as part of Rooney signing and Rooney will wear 32 as part of the deal. Wouldn't surprise me if the sponsorship deal is essentially covering all or the FFP portion of his wages.

I just like Farley's impersonations and thought I'd share this one.

Don't dislike Rooney either, heard him do an interview the other day for Sky where he spoke well. The thing I do dislike about him is that, whilst he's had a successful career, that he's wasted his natural gifts to an extent. As evidenced by the fact he's just joined Derby when the players like Ronaldo and Messi who he was supposedly going to be as good, if not better than, are still playing at the top level.

Oh and to paraphrase Bart Simpson, "I'm more striking than cute".

I think Farley is brilliant.
Not only does he get the different Scouse voices of Gerrard, Carragher and Rooney but he excels at Redknapp and in particular the script of 'Arry and not just the voice.

Literally all big clubs are driven by money. Barcelona have been underhanded and devious with PSG and Neymar, just as they were with Santos and Neymar which meant that most clubs in Brazil will no longer deal with them and just as they were with Atletico and Griezmann.

Perez has a good relationship with PSG and tries to do the same with other clubs, whenever possible. That's why PSG would prefer to do business with Madrid if they can.

Yes. Lampard isn't one to not know a good player and I suspect Luiz has (which has been confirmed by his childish sulk) a terrible attitude and Lamps is a new era for Chelsea

I expect Luiz knows his career is on the wind down now anyway seeing as he is taking a step down a mid table team like Arsenal.
