AFC Wimbledon?

I seem to remember them ending with really low attendances and there are numerous other clubs close to Wimbledon.

3 years before AFC Wimbledon was formed, the old Wimbledon averaged 18,000 at home games.

Did they? I seem to remember a game with us at Selhurst Park and the away fans outnumbered the home fans.

I shall try and find it.

Cant help but think Bury's low attendances, and proximity to other big clubs, may well not help a Phoenix club progress too far

Their hardcore of support will follow them.

They'll probably start at step 5 of the non league and average crowds if around 1700 ish as most do when they go bust.

Remember going to watch Aldershot in the early days after they went bust and had crowds of 1800 and taking 1000 to away games locally.

AFC took around 1000 to Sandhurst.

There will certainly be a core support that follow them. But how big that support is after a season of no football while they wait?

I am not trying to poo poo the idea btw (I actually think it sounds more fun than just bouncing between L1 & L2) but I think they are right up against it as they are already one of the smaller football league clubs

They would certainly be a giant in whatever div they have to start in, but I wouldnt expect to see them in the Conf pushing for promotion to the EFL for a long, long time (if ever)

They beat us 3-0 at home over Christmas in the horrific run of 3 consecutive 3-0 defeats at the end of 2003, which was the last time we played them as Wimbledon.

So how did the ffp process allow for the current owner to take control ?

Presuming that it is the end, the reformed club will presumably have to start at least at step 4 (same level as Bracknell and Marlow) maybe lower depending on the state of the reformed club

Hope to god they can still be just Bury FC and not call it AFC Bury

Their league membership will be revoked which obviously means they can't play in league 1 but they can apply under Bury FC to ay in the non league. They aren't necessary going bust.

Latest on Bury is that apparently 4 bids to buy the club from the current owner have been put to the FL who are now deliberating about what do with both Bury and Bolton. I reckon it’s odds on that they’ll extend this farce for another week and both clubs will be saved in that time.

The EFL have really messed up here.

I agree with what Joey Barton said, league one is now a farce. I don't want to see either Bury or Bolton fold, but Bolton's opponents have effectively had walkovers to date which if Bolton are saved and sign some freebee pros and pick up points, could all become important later on.

Same will happen for first few games if Bury miraculously start up.
