MATCHWATCH : Wolverhampton Wanderers (a) sponsored by Sammy Chung

by Sutekh » 21 Sep 2019 19:00

When : Wednesday, 25th September, 7.45pm
Where : Waterloo Rd, Wolverhampton, WV1 4QR
Capacity : 31,700
Away Stand : lower tier of the Steve Bull Stand, which runs along one side of the pitch
What might I see in the area : Gold

A break from the league for both clubs and a chance for both clubs to try and break what is starting to become a bit of an alarming season.

And that is what will make this one a bit of an unknown as I don’t think anyone has a clue how many of what you would term each club’s first team squad will be involved. Logically with their European involvement then Wolves should be severely shorn of those that grace the first division but then given their form and lack of success perhaps the Wolves management will want to include several of them to try and kick start that winning feeling. Same for Jose perhaps? No I actually think we will see a “reduced” team though perhaps not quite on the scale of the Plymouth tie.

Injuries for Reading are basically Morrison. Hopefully Miazga will be involved to some degree as we really need him back in.

Finally, usual rules, 90 minutes then penalties if needed.

Referee

Peter Bankes for this one.

Previously

21 Aug 2019 > West Bromwich Albion 1-1 Reading
16 Mar 2019 > Stoke City 0-0 Reading
16 Dec 2017 > Ipswich Town 2-0 Reading
25 Feb 2017 > Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 Reading
21 Jan 2017 > Derby County 3-2 Reading
30 Jan 2016 > Reading 4-0 Walsall (FA Cup)
20 Dec 2015 > Reading 1-0 Blackburn Rovers
08 Aug 2015 > Birmingham City 2-1 Reading

Historically

This will be the first visit Reading to Wolverhampton for a cup tie in any competition (except for the 1927 FA Cup semi final) though Reading have played Wolves twice previously in both the FA Cup and League Cup competitions, all at Elm Park, and from those games Wolves won both the FA Cup games and Reading win both of the League Cup games.

How to follow the game

  1. Get a ticket and travel
  2. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  3. Ring/text a mate for updates
  4. Use an iFollow subscription
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

Reserve team please. Maybe keep Puscas in as he needs to start scoring again. Please no Boye.

Peter Bankes "in charge" of this fixture I see. Poor referee who will do nothing for us.

Ditch the 3 CB’s and wing back formation and let’s go out and play some positive attacking football what have we got to lose. Anyone who busts a gut and has a great game should automatically start on Saturday time to get tough on our underperforming ‘1st team’

Walker

Howe
McIntyre
Blackett
Richards

Rino
Adam

Olise
Meite
Barrett

Baldock

Likely to be who has the better reserve team. not too many teams take it seriously until we get to the business end.

Why is everyone/anyone putting Walker?

He's not the kind of keeper who needs to be placated with starts. Cabral needs more games.

Always use your back up keeper in cup games so they've had some game time if they need to step in because of injury etc.

Ridiculous. Name me one time in the history of football when a keeper has come in and made a mistake that was definitely down to them being rusty.
