Gomes has gone for the simple fact it is now 3 wins in 18 in the league if you include the back end of last season. We had a very decent purple patch before that which all but saw us safe - combined with Rotherham falling off a cliff at the last apart from that we have seen results get progressively worse.

Based on his record overall we are on course to pick up another 38 points - so 46 in all - probably just enough again but no more. On the record of the last 18 games, only 30 points.

We've had one good week this season and whilst I liked the guy only picking up 1 point since that week, 3 wins since April and the home form some how getting worse, added to the fact he was in the last year of his deal then it is not a massive surprise, if you agree with it or not.

The board have nearly been burnt twice by giving the incumbant too much time to turn things around - Stam should have gone a lot earlier than he did as should have Clement as things were not working - I can see why they would be reticient to give Gomes more time when form has been getting worse and perhaps missing out on targets or not giving a new man time to make an impact more beyond securing 21st place.

I'm expecting Hughes and I wouldn't be aghast if it was him - his record for the most part (and all at PL level) is OK - the Stoke fans in my family speak highly of his first 3 years there but that things did go awry after that but they saw that as his ideas there getting stale and he would have been best served moving on the first year with him that they didn't finish 9th. My main concern is that he has never managed at this level - so someone like Hughton who has would be preferable.

I think the problem for Gomes was that he was unable to manage expectations.

He convinced everyone that we will be taking 2 points per game and we will be pushing for promotion. He set expectations too high. He allowed complacency to set in and was clearly out of his depth in the end.

He was a great short-term appointment and managed to galvanise the team and supporters last season to see us to safety and for that, Thank you! Jose Gomes. This season though you were not realisitic. You allowed everyone to think that we are better than what we are. And really what we needed was that spirit from last season where we are in a war and we have to fight our way to every point that is available.

Unfortunately the team isn't ready for a promotion push. The balance is not right. There isn't any width on the park. We don't have players that can beat a man the way Barrow and McCleary in his day could do. We don't have enough pace in wide areas to really hurt teams. We are too slow playing out from the back, unable to draw out the opposition and then quickly play through the thirds and hurt them further up the pitch. The team has actually got worse since last season. The opening day line-up against Sheffield Wednesday looked very weak and had relegation favourites written all over it.

Since then the arrivals of Puscas, Boye, Joao, Raphael, Miazga, Morrison etc. have helped but can no way compensate the losses of Martinez, Baker, Barrow, McCleary, Baldock, Gunter, Oliveira. We are in a relegation fight again. We will need to galvanise again. We will need to battle it out again.

Bye Gomes. But genuinely thank you for the way you raised us up from the ashes last season and got us believing again.

Been told that Jose Gomes and his staff's authority in the dressing room had severely deteriorated in the last few weeks. Also told several first-team players had nicknamed him a 'Car Salesman' because he 'talked a good game' - Make of that what you will..

#ReadingFC

If true - disgraceful. Could think of a few nick names for this group of conmen who have been abject failures under a succession of managers.
#SackThePlayers

Really? Let's look at our squad against Bristol

Rafael - new signing

Yiadom - a "supposed" POTS
Miazga - helped keep us up
Moore - on the whole has been very good
Morrison - new signing
Richards - hasn't done bad

Pele - new signing
Rino - our POTS
Ejaria - new signing

Puscas - new signing
Meite - scored vital goals

Walker - hasn't played
McIntyre - brought through by Gomes
Loader - brought through by Gomes
Barrett - brought through by Gomes
Olise - brought through by Gomes
Joao - new signing
Boye - new signing

Can you tell me who the "abject failures under a succession of managers" are please? The only long term players here really are Gunter, Moore, Swift and McCleary I think. Gomes cleared out the ones with the attitude problems and the deadwood including Ilori, Aluko, Barrow etc

Well that team is currently sat in relegation. Additionally being POS means oxf*rd all when the team are all utter shite. Moore has been dire this season and has been a constant in a shambolic defence over serval years. Maybe he needs to go?

The last couple of days was the first I heard of the 2 point target. I'd have LOLLed my arse off if I'd heard it at the start of the season and then ignore it completely.

Does seem odd there`s nothing from the club yet.

Could be that they are finalising the severance package or are close to finalising his replacement and want to announce that? Fingers burnt after the post-Clement search.

If we manage to get mid table from here i will be satisfied. We haven't got a bad squad right now but they just need better direction and hopefully better shooting practice.

They don't instantly. Didn't Clement's take a while to be made official?

It is more likely that the club are finalising things with Gomes' replacement more than anything else.

It's odd that the news has been leaked and 24 hours later nothing from the club at all. In fact, it's utterly scandalous that we've not heard a thing from them yet. PR disaster.

You know the reports are true because the club haven't denied them. Obviously just sorting out the details as people say.

At least we don't do "x has the full confidence of the board" two weeks later "x has left the club by mutual consent"

The reports are true but not for that ridiculous reason.

yeah, his ‘replacement’ is probably waiting to see what Jose’s severance package is....in preparation for their own severance dealings

Twitter hashtag is a ridiculous place right now. Grown adult STHs threatening to demand a refund as the club aren’t giving a running commentary on what’s progressing. Although the same fans embarrassing themselves does give you that warm, safe feeling knowing that life isn’t all that bad.

yep, and also the crying over 25% Gomes and the Hughes (and bizarrely McCleary) hatred is downright embarrassing.
