The whining on twitter is strangely enjoyable and really does make me want him to do well though. To the point I’d like to see him start Gunter and McCleary just to see a few of them explode in anger

Gunter as captain on Saturday and we may see a riot.

Forbury Lion I understand him wanting to go, but he recently signed a new highly paid (by Reading standards) contract and asked for a premiership release clause. If he had a Premiership or West Ham clause, things would have been different.

Right. But it was West Ham.
Who were a Championship club at the time, not a Premiership Club.

But it's West Ham.

As I said, it would be like Barnsley fans wondering why their managers' head was turned by Leeds.

Are you telling me they wouldn't be upset about that?
It's not what he did, it's the way that he did it. Sign a new contract (that I believe he asked for), then breach it weeks later because a rival club comes knocking.

Mark McGhee was perhaps worse, He shook the hand of the manager, said he was staying. Then the next day Leicester must have thrown a few numbers at him and he goes back on his word and says he's off.

Sir John Madejski say's he doesn't hold a grudge against either of them and in the case of Pardew, was happy to prove a point by taking them to the high court (even though they settled) because he knew they couldn't get Pardew back at that stage

Ah yeah, that was it. I remember being a bit partridge.gif about it at the time - would be like Barnsley fans complaining that their manager's head was turned by Leeds. Of course Pardew wanted to go - it was West Ham.

Yeah the only thing I'd add to "and leaves" is that he just resigned because he wasn't allowed to talk to Wet Sham, and then went on and joined them. I think Wet Sham are the most despicable club in the country for this and other dealings generally, and are more to blame than Parjudas, but that's their business. Parj resigning to jump ship to WH the next day was absolutely and utterly disgusting. I'd love to have him back only to shout abuse at him every home game. So yeah, bring it on.

Going back before that, in Harry Redknaps autobiography there was a bit about him beating Reading to a player or poaching a player from us by offering one of the Reading staff a job at West Ham.

Ultimate dick club.

What did Pardew actually do again? Leave for a bigger club?
Sign a lucrative contract in which he asked for a Premiership release clause, He then gets tapped up by a championship rival and leaves. This after telling at least one fan to their face that he's going nowhere.
He also say's in his leaving message something along the lines of "I hope you get the success you deserve".... read into that what you think!

I'm sure he also said some negative things about us in the media

To be fair, I was over Pardew leaving fairly quickly but it's always good to rattle an opposition manager by not letting things rest when you play against them, it fires the supporters up, fires the team up and winds the opposition manager up.

I'd welcome him back to the club if the managers role comes up again.

Ah yeah, that was it. I remember being a bit partridge.gif about it at the time - would be like Barnsley fans complaining that their manager's head was turned by Leeds. Of course Pardew wanted to go - it was West Ham.

It was also the manner in which they did it and that we were, iirc, above them at the time.

Trevor 'Nice Guy' Brooking openly saying on TV they'd been turned down but would just tap him up and get him anyway.

In fairness to Pardew, he's never said anything bad about us since that I've seen, whilst McGhee was worse and got really bitter slagging us off down the years.

Then the release clause should have said West Ham too if it was that obvious. It wasn't. They were moving in the wrong direction anyway. Many a once-top flight club are top flight no more. And none of that matters anyway: JM said he didn't want to him to speak to them or go. End of story. Just like when we wanted Colin Lee and Wolves' chairman didn't allow us to talk we accepted. Because we're not utterc*nts.

Let’s put it this way. There will be even more empty seats than usual.

Good. If people can't back a new manager at a game they shouldn't come.

We haven't got a new manager. We've got Mark Hughes' arsewipe.

That's out of character.....Have you been drinking?
Results will be the deciding factor on whether this move has worked out with performance and entertainment value contributing to any decision there after.

My biggest fear is a vocal section of fans being negative at games booing when the managers name is called out & chanting for his head during the game instead of backing the team.

Since the interview I sense a softening and more acceptance towards this appointment.

I genuinely wish him well and hope for an inspired choice,

The twitter meltdown from our so called supporters is downright embarrassing.

See our resident dickhead who was on full meltdown mode has since deleted all his tweets and snake emojis etc, seriously what is that all about? (Lordcks)

I think most fans at the ground will give him a chance. Obvs depends how we start vs PNE, but people will quickly move on

It will no doubts be brought back as a stick to beat him with, when he is inevitably under pressure at some point later in the season

It's fairly similar to Gomes. An appointment that doesn't seem to make much sense from the outside - but you just let the club get on with it and see how he does.

The only problem being that Reading fans will start crying if he loses 3 games in a row at any point . . . .
