FA Cup 19/20

by percy_freeman » 22 Nov 2019 22:38

With round two being played next weekend and the draw for round 3, who do you fancy and why? Go for a lower team and face an upset or an away trip to one of the big boys to play their kids. Anyone but Arsenal for me...

With Rd 3 taking place between what could be important games against Fulham and Forest, I can’t see that an arse-whooping at one of the big boys would do our season any good this time round. So a draw against a lower league club would be good just to rest a few players after a busy xmas period.

Oxford, Pompey, Exeter, Bristol Rovers, Crawley or Dover would be good.

Under no circumstances do I want a PL or Championship club, want a slow burning cup run. Would love a non league club. We all know it’s likely to be something crap like a trip to Cardiff, Leeds or Brighton though.

Not the most fashionable club but I quite fancy a trip down to Crabble Athletic.

Is the draw after Sunday's game (Chichester) or Monday (Solihull)?

I'd quite like a trip to Newport, Port Vale, Oldham or Northampton as in inexplicably missed these during our third tier stints.

Will you go to Oldham should we draw them?

John Smith Port Vale

Cheltenham are home to Port Vale in R2. As I'm round the corner from Whaddon Rd and would love a Reading visit, a trip to Vale Park is pretty much guaranteed. You heard it here first.

Nostalgia alert

I remember when they used to have a couple of gentlemen from the FA in the Sports Report studio on Saturday (radio 2 as it was then) that the 2nd round games were played to do the 3rd round draw at about ten past five. Experience would tell you roughly what ball number your club would be as they only mentioned the numbers for the top giant killers and the likes of ManU, Liverpool and the cup holders. Seemed so much more exciting than the over the top visuals and pointless yak you get these days.

Still hoping to get Oxford in the cup, I suspect that will come out of the bag and we will lose the Blackpool replay.
