Oh what a night

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0Hea0KZ4ys&feature=youtu.be

An amazing night, was at uni in Lincoln at the time and there was no way of me getting to the game and back home again, added to the fact that most of the country was snowed in at the time, I had to watch this in a pub. I was the only Reading fan (not unsurprising) mixed in with quite a few Liverpool fans.

I remember thinking, when Jobi stuck his effort wide, that it just wasn't going to be our night. But oh what a night.

Lived in Manc, as did rabidbee - ex of this parish, so we braved the snow and the Warrington services KFC.

Quite simply, one of the best experiences as a Reading fan I have had.

I had a 9 hour train journey from Reading, worth it all in the end of course.

Dreadful commentator.
If jobi had scored that, would it have been one of Readings greatest ever goals?

Yeah it is, but I can’t always find the ITV commentary which is much better.

100% it would’ve been one of the best.

The nutmeg was oxf*rd glorious.

Quite possibly the darkest day in the Madejski's history

Scunthorpe 2 - 2 Reading -19 Feb 2000

"We're off to sunny Scunny". 20 years ago today

In the midst of Pardew's season of transition, when adequate was probably the word to describe a fairly uneventlful season, 900 of us met up at the Madejski wearing special t-shirts with special stickets in our cars to travel in convoy to Scunthorpe.

It was a great, early, example of the power of the internet to enable fan groups to get together and organise events
or
it was a tragic day out for a bunch of geeky, internetz saddos.

Depending on your point of view.

To try and sort it all out Burns took off Brayson and bought on the entirely ineffective McIntyre and then replaced one of our best creative players in the shape of Glasgow and brought in Bernal from the bench. Sarr replaced the unimpressive Houghton, and then did nothing except pick up yet another booking.

I left after the fifth.

Couple of decent strikers for Rovers that day. Wonder what happened to them.

From Despair To Where? Idiots!!!

https://royals.org/matdoc/190205.html

Crazy end to that season (though obviously the following year made up for it) 70pts after 43 games and seemingly a shoe in for the play-offs we contrived to lose our last 3 games to let Pardew's West Ham sneak in and go on to win the play-offs.

Yep, that team would never achieve anything... wait though all it needed was Norwich to pay silly money for Hughes....

Heh, makes me think of this wonderful bit of dialogue.

'Ron Benson and Tony Hedges?'
'Yeh, I said there'd be a few surprises'
'Who else you looking at Mike?Lambert and Butler?'

What gets me is the absolute shift they put in at Sunderland (A) to cement the turnaround in form in March (thinking the Kitson hattrick but also just a return to some form of tenacity and ruggedness).

Then Wigan (A)

Awful.
