Best centre back pairing

I feel our best 4 centre backs are pretty similar in level; which two (assuming 2 only) would you pick?

Miazga and A Nother.

I now think we should do everything we can to sign him in the summer.

I agree that they are all of a similar standard but we seem to do better with Miazga in the side.

Miazga & MacIntyre longer term.

Morrison doesn't look as comfortable on the left.

Blackett is on the bench as cover nothing more. Be gone in the summer. Or as soon as we are totally safe.

Morrison best Champ defender we’ve had since Gorkss. Oozes class and quality and would be one of the first names on my team sheet

Miazga slotting in well next to him. So Miazga and Morrison at the moment with McIntyre having a bigger role if Miazga doesn’t look likely to come back next season

Zip Miazga and Moore

+1 esp if Moore is repaired, so we don’t wince every time he lands on that shoulder.

Miazga is the best of the lot and also seems to be the most commanding.

I think McIntyre is probably the one best suited to pairing him. He’s left footed, which brings a bit of balance, reasonably quick, and just oozes class on the ball.

Moore is obviously talented but hasn’t really shown it this season.

Morrison is an ordinary but committed player. Nothing special about him but he’s solid enough, a bit like McShane.

McIntyre could turn into a terrific centre back. My only concern is that he has picked up a few injuries in his fledgling career.

I think also, like McShane, his performances may fall off a cliff in the next few years

Exactly this

Miazga has looked head and shoulders above the rest since we first saw him. And I would have played him as soon as he was fit despite some poor results when playing 3 centre backs

I really think we have to forget about Miazga long term, can see him getting a perm move from Chelsea to a lower end Premier League side for next season. I was shocked nobody took a punt on him last summer tbh.

Not sure we could afford him or match his ambitions long term.

Morrison has some great strengths but he cannot pass the ball. Other teams have clearly worked it out so close us down, leaving him available so we inevitably have to give him the ball and then struggle to get it forward.

This is the biggest issue with Morrison. He is slow and uncertain on the ball and it means we lose momentum.
I think Miazga is our number one centre back and don’t think it’s out of the question buying him. He was happy to return again on loan and knows the club. He will want to settle down after several loan periods.

Don't think he's nearly as bad as people make out. Certainly not as bad as having good passers who try to play out under stupid pressure.

It's a clear and consistent pattern.
Teams pressure us but leave Morrison open, the ball has to go to him and he is then not able to find the good pass out of defence and the players who should be receiving the ball are all marked.
It's not about him being 'bad', he's an uncomplicated centre back who does most of the job well but we get in trouble because teams can force us to use him to do a job he is not suited to.
It's not really a comparison to say it is better than having a good passer playing the ball out because having a weak passer is not a good thing.
We need to be smarter and not allow him to be put in the situation.

Nothing unusual in that tactic. That's why Stam offloaded Jake Cooper. Wanted centre backs that were comfortable on the ball.
