Gunny Fishcake Two points for me , we're lucky to have the owners we have at the moment , and two, the players not deferring their wages is a disgrace. Note the word defer, as if the £1000's they get every week for for doing absolutely nothing at this moment in time is not enough to make you sick in the stomach. Greed and selfish doesn't even come close.
Perhaps they do not have outgoings that they can defer? - Perhaps their outgoings have actually increased in this current crisis as they support their friends, families and organisations more worthy of financial support than Reading FC?
Perhaps the reason for the deferral wasn't explained to the players? - The club have already furloughed staff etc, If they said "we're going to have to do this to avoid doing that" then the outcome may have been different.
It may be that they closed ranks and answered collectively because some of their teammates can not afford a temporary drop in wages and those who can chose to stand with them
What were terms of the deferral? - Was it something crazy like if you defer 90% of your salary from now until 2022, we will repay it at £1 a week starting in 2025?
It's difficult to judge without all the facts - Howe has bought it up to get the fans on the backs of the players, either to guilt trip them into accepting the new conditions or so they get blamed for any financial bad news going forward and not him.
