Royal Rother What is quite amusing (not really amusing) is that some clubs now missing out on promotion their efforts during the season had clearly earned had invested in players / wages well above the norm for the standard they were at in order to win / buy promotion, quite “happy” making a loss in the process. All part of the game, maybe to satisfy dreams / ego, or just to kick start well-planned progression up the ladder.
Now they’ve made that loss but have no promotion and have to do it all over again next season. But those players who were playing below their natural level will likely move on now as they won’t want to have a 2nd season playing a level or 2 down.
The haste in which they made the decision is the most ridiculous part of it all for me.
Deciding to null and void a season that is 80% done for most just 12 days after the last fixture was played, with the AGM a full 2 months off? What on earth were they thinking? They already knew that every non-league player would be out of contract by the time any chance of playing again, so what are they achieving by this? Its like there's a lust out there for instant decisions and information and "we have to know NOW" mentality. No you don't. Just show a bit of patience and wait.
As for that letter, im not sure the FA will change their mind. But im pretty sure the clubs effected, particularly those that had already mathematically won the title, will have a very strong case to sue the FA for damages if they don't go on to apply the same conclusion throughout the football pyramid.
