Peter Whittingham had a good game against us once. Scored a 30 yard + screamer and set up their second as we lost 2-1. Fairly even game otherwise and he was definitely the difference.

Was just scanning this thread and whittingham came to mind as well.

Then there is bannan, who for years we can’t seem to get near to, no matter what team he plays for.

How about some of the wolves team from the mid 90s: goodman, unfortunately, comes to mind and gilkes when he went to wolves as well.

Andy Johnson for me, whether he was playing for Everton, Qpr or Palace he always seemed to score a scrappy goal to ruin my afternoon, I was delighted when he retired.

Nathan Redmond - St Andrews - last game of season, championship winning season. Stand out performer, it all went through him.

Speaking of Birmingham wingers at St Andrews, Demarai Gray in Adkins’ last ever game.

oldebiscuit Jermaine Defoe destroyed us For Bournemouth at the end of the 2001 season, we’ll at least for the first half anyway. It took numerous tactical and positional changes to slow him down a touch.
I still laugh at that one, there big away day, and they needed to win to make the play offs, and we managed to somehow nick a 3-3 draw out of it and stop them.

That was when our fans pretended Wigan were winning 2-0, which would have knackered their promotion hopes. Their heads dropped, and we came back.

Their fans only realised we'd lied with about a minute to go.

Always feel like GK Frank Fielding plays above his ability against us.

Defoe went back to West Ham and the following season Bournemouth’s annual big day out was put on hold for a few years as they were relegated to league 1.

Defoe scored something like 11 games in a row for them and was destined for better things.
IIRC John O'Shea also played in that game.

Talking of Bournemouth they thrashed us one night at their place in the Freight Rover or whatever it was called and I think Colin Clarke scored 4.

Unfortunately , going back to that 3-3, I suppose Bournemouth have had the last laugh by spending much more time in the Premier League than we have -it just goes to show what can be done if you have the money although whether that will happen in the future comes down to how FFP is implemented.

Remember that game stopped Bournemouth reaching the play offs and they moaned about us trying to buy our way out of the League because of the Butler signing.

Ironic now given how much they spent to get promotion from the Championship. Combined with how most of the major money they've spent in the PL has been on some pretty average players.

There were grown men in tears that day as they clearly thought that it was going to be their only real chance of promotion.
The great thing was IIRC the result didn't matter to us as we were already in the play-offs.

Rudd Gullit played a half against us for Newcastle in a friendly and looked the best player on the pitch by a mile. Looked it up and he didn't play a competitive game for them so that friendly must have been one of his last games.

It mattered greatly. That equaliser meant we got mediocre Wigan in the playoffs instead of in form Bournemouth led by Defoe. Sadly we all know how it ultimately ended

I seem to remember Brian Jensen managing to single handedly keep us out for Burnley a couple of times. We had a couple of losses at Turf Moor which were daylight robbery.
